muffler shops really replace all those heat shields. I have a nice pathfinder 2003 and its starting to make rattle noises from those rusted old heat shields around the exhaust pipes, I wired on up and it stopped , now another one rattles , so sooner or later Ill need a muffler pipe replacement , will they the say Midas muffler shop put back those ridiculous heat shield original parts back , I really don think yo need them unless you park in very high grass or dry leaves.. I really don't know why Nissan didn't spring for stainless steel pipes , they seem to last for ever. has any one gotten a after market muffler job dome on your pathfinder and noticed if the shields were replaced ? :bs:

I've read people just snap them off and get rid of them with no problems. I personally haven't and i agree, if your not in a wheat field doing donuts or something get rid of em.

I guess if you really want to have a muffler shop replace them, put a mark on them somewhere and you will be able to tell if they are the originals or new ones.

Heat shields aren't for "wheat field burning prevention"... they reduce radiant heat transfer onto the body / undercarriage to keep the cabin temp cooler. :)

Mine fell/rusted off years ago, and I've never bothered to replace them.
No issues whatsoever.

Thanks Buzzman
I'm slowly taking mine off as they give me a rattle noise.
