Does a '98 Q have chain guides?

Yes it does, as do all other chain driven autos.

And no they should be fine, and last as long as the chains themselves last (200k to 300k?), assuming good oil change habits.

The only problems we ever had, was with the early design (90-93) w/ subsequent designs, being strenghtened consierably.
