I used to know but forgot. I think all cars or something like that made after 95 were required by law to have driver and passenger side airbags. Someone correct me.

they started with driver airbags in about 91, then in 95, driver and passenger was mandatory.

[dont know the years for the S chassis though]

who the hell cares about airbags. you think just because a car doesnt have air bags that your gonna instantly die on impact?

the car IS made of metal, you know.

yeah, it depends on the model, but in general airbags started to appear in 90-91.

I think you're right about 95 and up model cars requireing driver and passenger air bags. I think manufacturars had a choice for passive restraints in the early 90's. Hence the awesomeness of the automatic seatbelt. I know 92 and up on Saturn had driver airbag standard and in 95 you get a passenger side. I just wish no one had invented automatic seatbelts. I can latch mine on my own just fine.

yeah, i had auto seatbelts in my 1st gen dsm. it was alright, but you still have to latch the lap belt.

auto seatbelts make no difference to me, ever since my first accident i always put my seatbelt on if im driving.

In the early 90s (92?) all cars were required to have passive restraints (for driver and passenger) of some sort. So if they didnt already have airbags, then we got stuck with those stupid auto belts. If the driver had an airbag, then only the passenger was stuck with the crappy seat belt. I think beginnning in 1995 all passenger cars had to come with dual airbags.IIRC Mercedes was the first to introduce an airbag. It was an option (probably on the S class only) in 88 or 89.

i had a 91 2nd gen acura legend with a drivers airbag and manual seatbelts.

the auto seatbelts were not mandatory if the car had atleast one airbag. im not even sure if auto seatbelts were mandatory at any point for any reason in the first place.

unless these car body are built like a old style buick i should be concerned.

these cars arre made with lighter bodys, even though they are made of better material than most 95 and up cars, its still no buick if u get me.

im gonna go ahead and assume that you have never crashed a car.

i crashed my 1st gen toyota MR2 [about 2000 lbs, no air bags] going 70 mph into a jeep cherokee going 50 mph at a right angle. i had my seatbelt on and walked away without a scratch.

if your so concerned about the size of the car and the whole "air bag" bull****, then get a bigger car with air bags.

i dont understand what your complaining about??? i guess your a new driver.

Give me the S12 and buy a Caddy, then be more accident-prone because it's a big, sloppy, unresponsive pile and you won't be able to avoid sh1t. kthx.

Really man, wipe the tears off and get over it, air bags aren't all that important, just make sure you wear your seatbelt properly at all times, be aware of what's around you and don't do stupid sh1t with the car. :)
