I am a new J30T owner and new member on the forum. Thanks for all the info contributed on this forum.

Car details:
1993 J30T, 58k miles
CarFax shows Salvaged title with 1 previous owner
Car had lite front accident (bumper, headlight, front hood show lite crumpling)
Insurance paid out and car was auctioned
I bought for $3400 from the auctioned bidder

The car ran strong and shifted smoothly. On the 3rd day of driving, the transmission went out while driving 60+mph on the freeway. The was a loud clunk, and speed slowed to ~40mph. I stopped road side and was able to resume ~40 mph limp to city street. At full stop, 1st gear and maybe 2nd gear was grinding. Reaching 3rd gear, car could sustain 40 mph for me to limp home. Now at home, car has loss Reverse gear. Shifting to neutral seems to lock gear as if in Park - cannot push/move car while in neutral. In drive gear, car will move forward but I have not tried to drive.

From reading, it seems most analysis suggest Rev sensor malfunction and transmission will likely require a rebuild. The transmission self diagnostics shows no failure indicator.

There is a local craigslist ad of $700 for the full 95 J30T 198K miles on non-op with previous rebuilt transmission 21K miles ago. Will a 95-97 transmission fit on a 93-94 model?

About how much is the estimated cost for a transmission shop to swap the transmission?

I was not able to search and find a re-manufactured J30 transmission at EverythingInfiniti or other re-manufactuer.

Please advise on what options to try. Thanks.

95 seems to be a wild-card year.

I'm seeing info that the 93-95 and 96-97 are different, so I'm going to tentatively say the 95 trans is fine for a 93 car.

Also, here's a TON of J30 transmissions for sale. Some are low mileage. http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search. ... userPage=9

Thanks AZhitman for the search link. There are some low mileage for reasonable price.

I saw some info splitting 93-94 transmission into one group and 95-97 into another group. Does anyone else have info on this?

Could someone provide an shop cost estimate to swap out the transmission?

Thank you.

The JATCO OEM transmission unit was the same for all years.

Swapping transmissions is labor intensive, the engine has to be partially lifted and exhaust/emission components removed.
