I'm about to change the trans and diff fluid in my 2004 G35, and need to know if there is a trans filter.

there is no replacement filter. Its integrated into the valve body. Its not something you need to worry about.

+1. Its part of the valve body.

You can see the filter through the pickup on the valve body.

Awesome. Thanks. So in other words, drain and refill.

No. Drain and fill isn't very good. Get a complete, 12 quart flush from a machine. Nissan doesn't recommend a drain and fill, and after 5 years of dealing with infiniti vehicles, neither do I. It would be best to do a complete flush and get 12 quarts of fresh Matic S as an upgrade, instead of mixing new fluid with dirty fluid and contaminating it all.

drain/fill is fine. Just gotta do it the right way.

Drain via plug, Remove trans cooler lines. Add new fluid. Start car with one of the trans cooler lines still disconnected, keep it in park. It will pump fluid out of the cooler line.

If you don't have someone adding new fluid while you are doing this I would suggest pumping/adding in increments of 10-15 sec. so you don't burn up your pump.
