Does 1st gen Xterra need transmission oil coller bypass?

I just bought a 2003 Xterra SE. I've read and see pics and writeups about bypassing the in-radiator trans cooler. But looking at my underside it doesn't look the same as the pics and writeups I've seen on the newer ones. Does my generation still suffer from the transmission/radiator cooler failures?

If so, can someone help me out on how to do the bypass? I was thining I could just splice the one line going into the raditor into the other line going into the radiator and be good. Is it as simple as that?
