They had little car show outside our building on Friday. Mostly cars belonging to employees from the Dept of Energy. Sponsored by a local Corvette club so there were at least a dozen C5's and few C6's. My coworker and I snapped some pics.

My favorite was a 67 Corvette Sting Ray with original 1966 mechanical fuel injection and ITBs. And the Ford GTX wasn't bad either. Enjoy!

Thunderbird (1955 I believe)

Late 70's Vette with 69 side pipes. In the background, you can see a red BMW 1602 with a swapped M42 4 cylinder from a E36 318i.

Ford Catalina; wish I went back for some better pics

The owner pointed out that the front ram horns had to be cut a bit shorter than the rest to fit under the hood. Apparently he measured the rear cylinders... Oops!

Some pics of the Ford GTX. I didn't even get a pic of the whole car

Nice pics!

Did the guy with the GTX work for the Department of Energy?

If so, we pay our public servants WAY too much. ;)

LOL! I can't remember where he worked. But that "previously owned list" makes me think he's one cool mofo. I looked around but didnt see anyone who looked like they owned it.

I am legitimately surprised to see that DOE actually was intended to stand for Department of Education. For once, my Aspergish tendencies did not lead me astray!

About a month ago, they had the EcoCar Challenge finale outside. 16 schools built hybrids (some biodiesel, some E85 powered) and competed in economy and performance testing. They had the cars on display and announced the winner (Virginia Tech won).

Kip Ewing iwas part of the Ford GT design team, but was also the designer of the Ford GTX1 , which was the factory roadster version of the Ford GT. the GTX1 got a lotta press attention but ultimately didn't sell well, only 30-40 units built.
