You should be happy that you could afford the G while you did, and that you have a G through college...I drove a Focus... :-\Joey666Crack wrote:I did some calculations today, and have come to the grave realization, that on top of tuition, rent, food, and beer money, I will probably not be able to keep up with car insurance. This being said, I will have to probably trade my wonderful coupe in for a Toyota truck or dare I say... the car that shall not be named. I think I'm going to setup a paypal donation account for the Keep G Drivers Alive fund.
I payed the car in full when I bought it, so it's really not that bad. I'm debating whether I can afford the 3500 a year for insurance which is the problem. My mom keeps reassuring me that I can use parts of my student loans to help with that, which doesn't seem that bad because I'm going to med school and by the time it comes to paying everything back, I'll be pretty well off.biggie wrote:No way I could have made it through college with a car payment, much less one the size of a G payment. Hell, still have 3 years to pay on my education that ended over 7 years ago.
As a parent I would never allow that with this type of car (in fact probably no car) since it drastically could affect my own rate if something occurs (been there, done that). Even if the rates are not affected it also opens the door up for other legal issues.biggie wrote:Can't you get under your parents insurance or something? I stayed under that until I got out of college.
Definately has to be Age combined with the '06 Luxury sports coupe.
Hell, I'm at $1800/yr for 3 cars. All full coverage.
If you have a kid under your insurance and there is a serious wreck it can come back to haunt you. I know this by experience. In my case it has not affected me with my current carrier but I have had my options compromised with trying to obtain cheaper rates through other carriers because of it. So in effect it is costing me in the pocket book.biggie wrote:Well if I was a parent I wouldn't let such my kid at such a young age have such a car, but that's a whole other topic and my baised ol' timey thinking.
When I was under my parents insurance the car was still under their name, swtiched after college. Never heard of any issues or possible ones. May laws have changed since then.
The student loans could have their set of rules on how they are used. Mine at the time didn't have any rules. Used my loans for bills/rent/etc along with tution/books. Never had an issue.
This man is completely right, ive learned this lesson the hard way. I bought my G when I was 19years old, traded in my new altima after 11 months of having it and ate 6k in equity. That being said, my payments were $600 a month, now i practically want to get rid of the car and can't wait because zozoka is right, 1st get your life straight and than get something nice. My lease is 9 months and counting, can't wait. Want to move out from mommy and daddies place hahazozoka1212 wrote:
Glad you actually realized you not going to be able to keep up with everything andd the first thing was the car on the list. There are so many other things you can do also beside switching the car. To be honest with you If I were you I would buy a house first before buying a relativly expensive car.
Sell the car and get Civic or something what can take you from A-B safely every day. Once your financial life is a little ahead than treat yourself with something nicer.
My 2 cents into your new fund as a first donation.
WTH.. I am paying 1800 for 1 car.. I am a good driver too.. No accident! WTF!biggie wrote:Can't you get under your parents insurance or something? I stayed under that until I got out of college.

Based on your age, your credit, your location, your car's value, your marital status, etc....there's a lot that goes into your rating. Also depends on your deductible and your liability limits.LuckyLuke wrote:

I've never had any points, single, over 30 all 3 cars and house insurances with same company.LuckyLuke wrote:WTH.. I am paying 1800 for 1 car.. I am a good driver too.. No accident! WTF!
This is why his rate is high...If you paid for your car outright, you could go with liability only...but if you cause an accident, you're screwed. But $300 a month for insurance is a tough bullet to bite.Joey666Crack wrote:Yeah, I'm 18...It was mostly my fault for my youthful and reckless driving years back.
Actually for an 18 year old driving a 'G' I think it is a fairly good rate based on what I see here with an example just 2 years older with what sounds like a similar background driving an old Swedish car.joe603 wrote:

EDIT: This is my 1000th post, and it's on a thread that you made... You should feel honored...
Do I get anything cool?
Honestly this is my 4th car, every car I've owned I've paid for in full, but all the others were beaters for lack of better terms. So that being said if something does happen I want it to be covered, so I'll pay for the extra coverage. Like earlier in my NICO life time when a rat chewed through my brake actuator wires, insurance covered the 2k I had to drop to get it fixed.joe603 wrote:
