If I were to grab a gauge cluster out of a 280z, do you think it could read the speed and tach sensors since its a Nissan straight six? Also if I hooked up the stock KA speedo it wouldn't read at all right, or would it be off?

For our 20's, just swap the KA speed sensor into the RB transmission and the KA speedo should work fine. May be a bit off but better than RPM guessing like me.

I believe that the 280 speedo is cable driven.

I spent a lot of time in junkyards looking for options for us 25 owners. One thought that I couldn't ever test was getting the speed sensor from a Z32 N/A , since the 25 transmission is supposed to be very similar. That might work for your speedo. I just couldn't find one in the junkyard.

rewiring the r33 cluster is the best option in my head, if you can handle having it in KMph ... but that can be converted to MPH if you wanted...

that is if your motor came with a cluster.

It has been a while since I went to the junkyard, but I believe it was cable driven also.

rb20 trans have speedo cables, i'm pretty sure the rb25 transmission has a sensor. i think thats one of the ways you can tell the difference

you are correct. On the 20 most people remove the sensor from there KA transmission and put in the 20 transmission and it works. It doesn't work in the 25 unfortunately so us 25 26/25 people have to calibrate the cluster.

sorry for the ignorant question- but thats for the speedo not tach right? Is the only way to get my rb20 in my s13 to work with the rb tach? Someone suggested mckinnley adaptor- but they said all they could do was recalibrate my tach...rather buy the gauge than send it away to the other coast
