Check out this Versa for sale in San Diego. Do you guys think the insurance would have totalled it out for damage to a rear door? I find it hard to believe. Still seems like a good deal though.

Looks extremely fishy to me. They've been in business for 8 years; no website and only a free hotmail email? Car has United Nissan dealer plates but Gogas bought it at salvage? All pictures are of a car located in someone's residential driveway, not an auto sales lot that's been in business for 8 years?

Citysearch has an address and phone #. I guess you could call them and drive over to see it. If you do, make sure to do a background check on the car using your own research company, not theirs. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

There is NO way that "just a back door" would have totalled that car.

My first Versa had more miles when it was hit, and it sustained $7900 in damage. Wasn't totalled. They had to replace the front bumper, grille, rear bumper, rear bumper brackets, repair both rear quarter, replace the hatch and both tail lights, and all of the interior plastic in the trunk... plus a host of other miscellaneous items, and repaint/blend the car so it looked like new.

If THAT didn't total a V, there is no way on earth that a simple door hit would have caused a totaling.

It's not that hard to believe. The dealership is most likely a family business and just wants to sell salvaged cars locally, explaining why there is no website. I'm sure the dealer drove the car home one day just to take pictures of it...

As for the price, it doesn't seem that bad. It's under a salvaged title because of collision to the rear door, but I'm sure they got that fixed, just as long as the air bags weren't deployed. The car looks fine from the pictures, but you might want to check it out.

If you're really interested in getting this car, ask them for pictures of the damaged door. They didn't show any pictures of the door behind the driver, I'm assuming that's where it was hit...

You should check out the actual dealership rather than through eBay just to avoid scams... if they're legit.

A couple of additional items to check:

1. verify the dealership with the California tag/plate number on the car. Call them to see if they do in fact own or posses this Versa.

2. verify with the state the vehicle is actually been salvaged. If true, there should be a record on file. In Texas you cannot put a plate on a car and operate it on the highway without re-reregistering the car as salvaged.I don't believe a dealer could do, but a private citizen after re-ispection by the state to certify it is safe for highway use.

3. inspect the title, if possible, to see if it is a special salvage title. Again, in Texas special efforts are made to keep salvage vehicles off the road as the are presumed unsafe until proven otherwise the proper authorities.

Well I wasn't doubting whether the dealership was legit or not. There are a ton of small dealerships all over southern california that don't have web sites and just sell locally. However, what I was wondering about is exactly what EV said... there's no way this car could have been totalled out by an insurance company for damage to a rear door. It has less than 2000 miles on it, and replacing an entire door couldn't cost more than $3000 at the very most. I think they are lieing about the amount of damage the car sustained. The problem is that independent research companies (car fax, etc) will only show that the vehicle was in an accident and totalled, it won't show the extent of the damage. So let me ask everyone this... if you buy a car with 1500 miles and a salvaged title, is the Nissan factory warranty void?

it seems like the right head lights broken too, look it feels like it doesnt have that glass cover on it, and so they dont have a close up of it they only have a close up on the other side.

That sounds like an excellent question to call and ask Nissan North America's consumer affairs department about.

get the vin number and go to http://www.carfax.com/ and run the number. it will tell you when and if it was in an accident. you can also get a detailed report, but that will cost you. (but if you are seriously considering it, then it might be worth the money)

Warning about carfax... they're not entirely reliable.

My wife's Tucson, as of when I checked it in January, did NOT show as having been in an accident. This is false, since she wrecked it in October 2005.

Also, my first Versa did not show up as having an accident at that time, 2+ months after it was in a wreck.

Not to mention, like I said before, Car Fax is not that detailed. I've used it to research cars before and it'll tell you that it was involved in an accident, and it'll tell you that the car was totalled and the amount of $ in damage. However, it won't tell you what was damaged on the car (example... it might say that the car sustained side impact damage, but it won't say that the door was replaced vs. the door, the quarterpanel needed work, the wheel needed to be replaced, brake and suspension components, tail light, etc.) That's my concern... is that this dealer is lieing about the amount of damage that this vehicle sustained in it's accident, because an insurance company won't total it and pay for it unless it's more than the value of the car. Anyway, my g/f said she didn't want it after all, so I don't even have to think about it anymore. She want's a rogue now. Go figure.

That just means that Heroes is a very effective marketing tool for Nissan.

A Accident and a Salvage is two different things! There are a ton of Large Body Shops and most all small body shops that don't report damages.A salvage on the other hand has to be recorded with the state. So car fax would know about a salvage.
