i have some minor scratches, chipped off paint on the hood and some on the fender.

the rest of the car looks clean.

problem is the clearcoat. do you think guys at maaco or any other normal place can match it with clear at reasonable rate?

any experience in this arena?

Maaco is too low end to trust w/ a Q.They may have some decent epiupment but since tehir busines model dictates low-cost, they wont have any reall good guys working there.

I'd gpo with finding a quality shop.yes it cost more, but you're just doing hood and fender right?

Of course a quality shop doing just the hood is more than MAACO doing the entire car....

I'm not sure what year your Q is, but the early Q's used a special type of paint which is difficult for most shops to duplicate. I'm sure that MAACO would be the wrong place to look for a match.

The majority of paint charges are LABOR as GOOD prep work is hard to find and labor intensive. See if you can help out the prep work and that may help get you a deal.

Personally, I've found if your willing to supply the painstaking prep labor you can get a good paint job much cheaper. But DAMN it takes alot of work to get it right.

Local dealer will usually be able to refer you to a service that can do chip and scratch touch up - The dealer does this with their demo cars, trade-ins and even their brand new units... The touch up guys that the dealer uses are GOOD - They use airbrushes and other specialized equipment, and are WELL worth the $.

I got all the nicks on my hood and fenders done for $175.

AZ got a good point, i didnt know they could fix nicks like that. i will call up and see.

by the way AZ, can you be a bit more patriotic? I like it.

Hey all,

After you get your car painted, use our product "5 Star shine". You'll get the same results as other high end waxes but have a much better and longer finish protection. It will save you the time of having to reapply wax to keep your paint protected.

Click on our ad on the left side near the top of this page and get the details. Be sure to use the customer discount code "vipdiscounts".-Chadhttp://www.5starshine.com'Never wax your car again"

My advice is to look for an insurance company preferred body shop in your area and ask to pay cash. In my expereince I've gotten a really outstanding paint job and paid cheaper than custom shops/Infiniti dealer.
