I am getting my car this friday and I can't wait, time is going by soooooo slowly. The car doens't come with a sound system so, I was think of putting 2 high-mid range speakers in the front doors. 2 12" subs in the back. Or should I go with 2 high-mid range speakers in the front, 2 high to mid range speakers in the rear passenger sides and 1 12" sub in the back. Is a 240 too small to have 2 big speakers in the back? I want my sound system to sound crisp and clear and be able to pump out some good bass to, but I don't want my car to be heard from 5 blocks down the street. :pface

I would suggest your second choice, one quality 12 inch sub would provide ample amounts of bass and low range sound, plus to sound crisp you def. need some good speakers to go along with it.

remember that quality is better than just "more speakers"

the 2nd choice sounds like the best for you, i havent noticed how cramped my system and former systems where in the 240 until i got my new car.

No subs. Just run JL audio components in the stock locations and get the 300/4 JL amp. Will provide ample sound for your car. Why a sub when your drifting and auto-xing, more weight = less speed.

You need 4 18's with a 1.21 jigga-watts amp and a S13 Type-R sticker.

I have 1 JL 10 in a bandpass box, still lots of room and killer sound. just remember the more equipment equals more weight. back when i ran 4 10's in my car i had to invest in a rear camber kit, since the tires sat even further in then before the stereo, thats also why i downsized, plus my car had a bad tendency to bottom out.

same with my car i have 2 12's .. pics in this section named PICS OF TEMP INSTALL.. but the box weights 60lbs and the subs are 25lbs a piece and plus the amp weighs 20lbs so my back end is really heavy.. but i'm just gonna compensate with more ponies

1) take out your back seat2) Put in an 18 inch stroker in a 6 cubic foot box3) Hook up to 2 rockford 1500bd's4) put cement in the bottom of your car to deaden sound5) BUMP AWAY

PS-Dont get speakers the sub will just blow them

ummm...because some of us have to do things like work, drive to far places on the highway, and go out. A little better with some sound. There is more to our lives than sliding...albeit not much.:D

I have 2 RF 12s in my car, there is more than enough bass. I think you would be happy with 1 12"

To each his own. I have 2 infinity 12's in my 240 with 2 alpine v12 amps. Unless you do nothing but race with your car you will be all set. And if you are planning on going to the track. Just pop the hatch and take the subs out.

Peace. Matt

I just got some Pioneer replacement speakers for my ride, but I am more conciensious about weight and such.

In my experience with multiple subs in a small space:I had a 1995 S-10 extended cab with a full Infiniti component setup and 2 RF HX2 12" subs with a Pioneer GMX942 2 channel amp. Lots o thump. But sound quality was compromised. Sure, I had the baddest bump at my high school, but if I ever wanted to compete, I needed to do a lot of sealing and build a full on custom box (even though I bought a $250 box from a competetion store). I say due to the small size of the 240, go with one sub. Make a little L bracket that you can bolt the box onto for cruising, and just pop off the power, ground, and RCAs and yank the sucker when you go to the track. Have fun (Even though I kinda outgrew the stereo phase myself)

to save some weight I took out the spare tire and put my alpine amp there. My friend custom made my box and is no more than 20 pounds. I have two jensens and they hit hard, only pushing 500 watts though. check out the set up on cardomain

A single (well powered) sub in a properly built box, paired with a nice set of mid-range speakers/components up front should give good sound without compromising weight too much.

Keep in mind there are extremes to both sides.

If weight is an issue, take out everything that doesn't help the car go, stop or turn or keep you in it safely.

If weight is not an issue, install as eloborate of a system as you can afford and install sound deadening/dampening materials.

So forget all but my first sentence and have fun :)
