i was in the garage and i came across a couple of receipts. i checked to see what they were for, one ended up in the garbage, and the other was saved for warranty purposes. i'm talking car stuff. i used to save receipts, but then i looked at them all and was disgusted with how much money i really spent on my cars. i know it's going to get really bad with the datsun and i'd rather not know what i spent when it's all said and done.

anyway, i was just interested to hear why, or why not, nico saves their car receipts.

I only save receipts for anything I itemize on my taxes (5 years) or if I might possibly need to return a part or item. Other then that I don't save any receipts and burn any bank statements.

Important receipts, or receipts for pricey stuff gets saved. Anything warranty related or anything with a potentially short lifespan (xbox 360) gets saved. That actually saved my a** two or three years ago when my Xbox 360 died. In-store warranty meant I grabbed the receipt, drove to the store, and drove back home with a new-in-packaging 360.

The only receipts I do keep are for my car. Not sure why, I guess just to see everything I bought for it (not including cleaning supplies).

Save them receipts. My car insurance covered my stereo when my last car was stolen since it was installed in the vehicle. They also told me they'd cover any other aftermarket mods that were permanently installed (I know they can be removed, but the differentiation is between installed items and like a lap top in the back seat). For this reason alone, I have pics of my modifications, as well as the receipts to prove what they're worth.

I save all receipts that are relevant for potential future need. So, grocery and dining out receipts get thrown out for example, but purchases of any significant nature - particularly for long-lasting products - get saved.

Just a single file folder per year that I put receipts into when I get home. No sorting, unless I need to search for something.

This has come in handy to get free repair and replacements done - even well beyond warranty period sometimes.

I save receipts for car stuff; anything besides oil-change products.

My problem with the receipts that businesses use these days is the thermal paper they use. The writing on it fades away after only a couple months! Also, if it gets left in a hot car, the whole thing might go black and thusly becomes UNUSABLE for anything other than to wipe my as$ with.

It's a scam!

Oh, yeah. As far as cars go I save EVERYTHING...except oil and filter receipts, since none of my cars have been under factory warranty to necessitate that.

I delivered for Pizza Hut for about a year just after high school. The pizza delivery bags have these little "windows" to put the receipt in so the customer can view it and so the driver can see the address easily while driving. Unfortunately, since the receipts were printed on thermal paper, the receipt would often be completely black and entirely unreadable by the time I made it to the customer's door.
