Electrical tape? On the fitting that goes into the turbo?

Yes use sealant. Don't use teflon tape, get some high temp thread sealant. $5 at Advance Auto.

Would high temp gasket stuff work? Like the stuff you use for the valve cover? Or thread tight? Trying to see what I have around the house that would work.

If they are the lines that go into the block etc., then yes, you need tape. If you are talking about the other end and it is a AN fitting, then no, you absolutely do not want to use anything. AN fittings are designed to not leak.... EVER.

Well I put teflon tape on the lines going in and out of the turbo for the coolant lines and I put the high temp stuff on the oil. Those cant hurt it right?

I put high temp liquid teflon sealant on turbo oil feed and it smoked pretty bad... It stopped burning after awhile but it seals really well. But since then I've been using high temp engine thread sealant.

If you have time probably. If its holding just leave it and replace it next time you fix/disassemble it.

there is a LOT of miss information here.

you only need teflon tape/paste on TAPERED threads. (NPT are usually tapered)

stock SR turbo oil feed line is an IF fitting (invered flare) which seals on the flare not the threads.

also AN fittings seal on the flare not the threads

all the waters lines on the block are straight metric thread, so they will use a "crush" washer to seal not teflon of any other type of sealnt.

the stock SR turbo and most garrett turbos, use the same straight metric thread for water, so they will also seal with a crush washer, no teflon or sealnt.

japslap is correct, as well as broadfield. -AN fittings are designed to seal on the flare. BUT the actual fitting you put in for the turbo oil feed, water in/out, should all be tefloned if theyre not a flare type fitting like a stock sr turbo (??? im just going by what japslap said as i never really payed close attention to a stock sr turbo, but makes sense what he said). all the 5 garrett turbos ive used have always had to have some sort of sealant for those inlets. on the turbo oil drain, you should by a gasket for inbetween the return housing, and the flange you have to attach a -AN fitting to, or already has a male -AN fitting made with it as one piece (maxworx has these in aluminum and theyre really HOT!!). as for the bspt fitting in the back of the block use some sort of teflon there as well. so to sum it up...

-AN flare style fitting NO for sealant of any type

threaded pipe fittings YES for TEFLON sealant

See the way I see it(which might be wrong) is that its just an extra security against the lines leaking. Or does it actually affect the seal on the lines?

basically DONT use teflon on anything other than TAPERED threads.

for example, the oil feed line is an inverted flare fitting. 7/16-24 IIRC thread. there is no taper in those threads, soo if u put teflon on it, the flare will not seat correctly.

plus IF you happen to get any of that teflon in the turbo...u will block the oil passage and starve the CHRA of oil.

well I redid it earlier today and used the high temp thread sealant. So should I remove them and not use anything on any of the lines? Except for the ones going into the block?

was it a liquid, similar to a thread lock?? if so it should be fine...most likely it will smoke a little when the turbo gets hot.

im assuming that you are using braided lines and stock turbo? if so, then you will not use any Teflon on any of the fittings..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread_seal_tape

second paragraph.

FYI the fitting on the block and turbo (water) and oil fitting on the block are parallel thread.
