The answer is NO! They are made out of crappy thin plastic and all they do is break. Well, I've been working on a solution and I think I came up with one now. This week, I successfully made a mold out of a rear switch button, and I then replicated it out of a stronger material (with a bit of a modification in the design so it's stronger). I only made one so far. It's not perfect, but I think it's going to work. I have to wait overnight for it to fully cure before I try it out.

To make one switch button it takes about 5 hours and I'm making them by hand. Then it needs to cure overnight. Yes, this sucks, but it's better than dealing with broken buttons all the time!

I'll post more info tomrrow when I actually try it out...

I stocked up on them.

3 240's came into my local junkyard and 1 of them was a convertible. I took the rear window switches and the convertible top switch in case that one ever goes.

You're serious though. Damn, 5 hours is a loooong time!

I hope they work out for you!

That switch sucks big time. Mine wasn't working very well so I pulled it completely apart and found a thin plastic piece inside that was so thin and worn that it weasnt pushing the metal contacts together to put the passenger side window up so I flipped it around and now the window goes up great. It's alittle worse at going down now but they go down with the roof so thats less important.

Hmmm... I didn't know the switch was a common problem. Never replaced mine never had a problem. I'll be careful from now on. Thanks for the info...

Update: Well, for some reason, the material I used to recreate the button shrunk a little bit and won't fit over the square post that comes out of the switch. I'm not too happy about this because it took me a long time to make the mold.

I hate these crappy lil switch buttons. It's going to take some more time now because I have bigger fish to fry, but I'll get it!

Good news! I got the prototype to fit today, but the material I used is not the right stuff to use. It's too brittle So, my mold did work and I do have a replacement switch button installed in my car right now. I'm going to look into finding the right material to use, and once I do, I can start making replacement pieces... one at a time... :-)

I'll post again when I have new info...

Why can't a small plate be fitted with two spring loaded toggle switches? I would think this would pretty much solve the bad switch problem without having to mold new ones. What am I missing here? If the switch is bad, its just a switch, put something else in its place...No offense to Danrc30, who appears to be rather proactive in his venture.

No offense taken. I'm not an electrical engineer, but I don't think it's as easy as you think. The connector has several pins in it and I wouldn't know where to start when considering a different switch. Then you also have the fact that you'll lose the factory look. Finding switches that will work and match the interior is just about impossible...

How many pins/wires are there? I would guess 3 for each switch? One ground and one wire to each side of the switch.

correct, 3 pins for each side.

It honestly wouldn't be very hard to wire in a seperate switch, but you'd deffinitely loose the "stock-ness", although if you needed a temporary solution until a switch popped up in the classifieds for sale it would be a viable option if you can find the right type of switch,

I wonder if the dash dimmer switch would work? put two on the spaces to the right of the wheel where the blank and OD light are. Just scrape off the dimmer decal, look stock and likely function better. Then you could put the remote mirror button where it belongs. Not sure if it would work, just a thought.
