I have a hole in mine and it is leaking exhaust under the hood. I live in florida so i do not have to take smog tests. I know i have to get a plug for the exhaust manifold, but what about the intake manifold and also what about the wiring?

Won't the computer throw a code if it isn't connected?

Do you kow if a website sells an EGR elimination kit?

Will this help or hurt acceleration?

thanks for your time,DbD

[Exhaust Manifold Side]As far as I know you can just make an egr blockoff plate, just buy metal thats strong enough...

[Intake Manifold Side]Plug up the hole with JBWeld. Seriously. The intake doesn't get nearly as hot as the exhaust so JBWeld will work.

[Wiring]I have no earthly idea. But I think, since you're not gonna be using it anymore, you can cut it (disconnect the batter first cuz I don't know if any of those lines are hot) and then heat shrink+electrical tape the wires.

I would be careful using JB Weld anywhere on the intake side. I used JB Weld on my throttle body on my FC3S and it cracked, got sucked in and DESTROYED my engine. Just my $.02

If you disconect the EGR without having the ECU reprogramed, the engine will run rich. Because the ECU takes into account the EGR into A/F ratios, and there will be no recerculation, there will be more fuel than than is needed. The ECU doesn't know there is no EGR, unless that is programmed in.

actually you have that backwards, the car will run lean if you disconnect the egr, the computer thinks that exhaust gas is being sent into the cylinders so it pulls back the fuel a bit to counteract the lower O2 levels.

When does the EGR run because if its during cruise or low idle, won't the computer just adjust the fuel as it is running off of the 02 senor to meet AFR ratios during this time. The EGR from what I understand only runs at idle or low rpm. Correct me as I'm sure something I said is wrong..

This is getting very informative. Thanks for the replies everyone and please let us know whether the engine will run rich or lean at idle or under load.

thanks again,DbD

Basically what a EGR does is recirculate exhaust gas to the engine diluting the Air/fuel mixture causing a reduction in peak combustion temps. This helps lower emissions especially NOx.When the computer opens the EGR really depends on the manufacturer.Usually around 40-60mph.What it really does is reduce power output at higher cylinder temps. If you remove it it wont hurt your engine. In most cases it will give you a little more pep at higher RPM's.I have not known it to cause a car to run rich or lean without it.If it does its unnoticable.

Ok so i got a reactive air filter insted of my stock box, so what should i do with the egr hose, there is no nipple to attach it to the adapter so i just got it kinked off right now. ive seen people put little filters on their hosesis that a good idea, the injen cold air intake has the place for the egr so should i just go with that and leave the egr hooked up, any info would help. thanks guy and take it easy.~Jon
