Attached is a receipt showing a factory replacement engine for a 1991 Q45 at 47,712 miles. Might be a new record as this is lowest mileage I’ve ever heard of the timing guides breaking.

The date on the receipt is 1997, and I’m interested to know if there is any way to tell if this replacement engine would have the updated guides? Did the replacement engines also have the weak timing chain guides.

The extra engines were made early in the build process.

I wouldn't trust it as this unit could have been sitting in warehouse since 1989-1990.

Have a qualified tech pull the front cover and look. It shouldn't take more than 5 hours unless the guide need to be changed.

WE charge $500 to look and this of course gets applied to $1200 to change guides if necessary.

The earlier you look the less likely you will need to drop oil pan and fish out broken parts.
