no, but you should keep receipts everytime you buy oil filter, oil, etc. A pain in the ***, I haven't kept mine .... crossing my fingers though

Absolutely not. You are free to get your oil changed, or any maintenance at anywhere you see fit, but obviously on the maintenance end, taking advantage of that warranty is where it's at.

It's always a good idea to keep all of your maintenance records, especially when the re-sale factor comes out years from now.. it's a huge selling point when someone walks up with a giant folder of meticulous records..

if its your first oil change i would recommend that you use regular oil first, then maybe the second oil change you can use synthetic. make sure you change the filter every time too

Absolutely agree with niztec, definitely roll traditional oil for the first 1 or 2 oil changes, and then move to synthetic. Sounds scary, but a new engine is going to work out it's own internal weaknesses, and may end up with contaminants in the oil, so regular shorter intervals is preferred at first, and then you can relax a bit with the timing on future changes.

IMHO, 7,500 miles is fine on most broken-in engines, but 2,500-3,000 for the first couple is good protection. 3,500 miles from beginning to end is overkill, but if you have the $$ and enjoy that warm cozy feeling knowing you did all you could do on the maintenance end, absolutely can't hurt.

For you older engine folks, switching to synthetic late in the game could open up some issues you weren't prepared for. Synthetic oil is, by design, thinner, and is not recommended for switching on high mileage engines, despite the oil's inherent benefits. It's very possible for synthetic to slip past older worn out seals, and cause leaks where existing oils didn't.

FYI, i've done 2 changes at 2K intervals, btw - You should have seen the crap that came out of the first one. Switched to the Synthetic at 6,500. By the 3rd set of oil (Original + 2 regular oil changes) I see very little debris.

After one more change, i'm moving to the recommended cycle unless there is real hard driving involved.

You could also scan all your receipts and keep electronic versions for back up, that way when you sell it you could furnish a CD for all maintenance done.

As far as oil change interval I agree w/ Josh at Stillen. My last oil change went out to 6000 miles using Mobil one and Napa gold filter. Used oil analysis said the wear numbers looked good and no significant dilution or viscosity change. The lab said I could extend the change interval a little longer if I wanted.I will probably keep it at every 6500 miles from this point on.

nissan service tries to scare you into bringing your car to them for service which in my opinion is a crock of sh*t.

nissan sends out a sh*tty letter trying to get you in and pay for their service by saying - verbatum

Looking at your SEMA turbo Coupe, I think your ride would be a prime canidate for the Magnason Moss Act.

Honestly Nissan, I wasn't aware that the turbo would blow up the motor...

could you imagine. "here nissan techs. my ride needs service according to your threatening letter. i'd appreciate it if you would just work around the turbo and not touch anything that you don't know a damn thing about!"

and the sema foxmarketing coupe isn't mine. mine is just the one undergoing turbo developement right now. Wish i had that one too though.

i'm a noob too but oil is oil, people will have preferences on oil, a lot of people like Mobil 1, then there's that Royal Purple stuff that will burn a hole in your wallet. Most importanly, change it often, with the correct oil type 5W30

i'm one of the mobil1 full syn fans. 3000 miles, 3 trips to the 1/8 drag strip, mostly city driving and my oil was still light gold in color. can't beat that.

+1 for Mobil 1. They have been in the business for a long time. They know what they are doing with motor oil.

i buy filters at the dealership and oil wherever is cheapest in bulk and change my own and dispose at auto zone. 5w30 mobile 1 fully synthetic. go to the bank before you pay someone to change your oil with fully synthetic cause they charge alot.

I did my first oil change with part syntheic. The Mobile 1 7500 miles. My next oil change i will jump up to Full Synthetic. Mobile 1 15000 miles. Its a good stepping stone for your engine to adapt and break in to the oil. Conventional Oil, Synthetic Blend, and finally Fully Synthetic. When the time comes that you put fully synthetic in your car, you can consistently change it at 7500 miles with more fully synthetic. Without hurting your engine
