Hi everyone,

On my last vacuum test on my 2001 Altima, the results showed that I might have worn piston rings.

My question is, do the liquids available at Autozone work to fix the problem or should I keep away from them. I don't want to do further damage to my engine by using such chemicals if they are not going to help.

Has anyone used any product like Engine Restore or Ring Repair? And did it help, did nothing or damaged the engine.

Thanks.

I'm not a huge fan of using a liquid to try and "fix" a piece of metal - I don't really see how effective it will be...I've not really heard much about those types of products though.

My best advice would be to replace - you're more than likely going to cause more damage by introducing new chemicals into the engine than good - it will probably be cheaper in the end to just replace them.

Thanks Marlin,

I was also unsure about the product as they claim to coat the cylinders and fill in the scratches. I think they might fill in the scratches at first but then the damaged rings would create more/new scratches and will require a regular use of these ring repair liquids.

Well I'll keep the engine as is for a while.

What do you think, a 0-60 in 9.7 sec is OK for a stock KA24DE and a stock transmission with 125 K miles on it?
