Do the EX35 owners really find the interior/trunk to be way too small?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I am just curious, because when I compare it to the G37, 3 series etc, there is just as much rear leg room in the EX35, but people don't seem to complain about the other two! Also, the trunk is just as small/big as well... I guess they are just comparing it to all the other BIG SUV's out there? Do the owners really find it THAT tight? Surely it's a cozy interior, but it's not that particularly tight, is it? What are you thoughts?

I think it is a little tighter than the G for sure, but in actual use the space is sufficient. I have carried adults in the back seat on several occasions and to a person each one has commented on how comfortable the back seats are. Now, there is a little less leg room, but again, it is sufficient for all but the very large. Let's face it, how much room do you need for your legs/feet! I think this debate is a little like the size of homes. When I was growing up most folks lived in homes that were very modest in size, 1,200 square feet or less, and children often shared bedrooms. Now the average home is probably in the range of 2,000 square feet, with a lot of extra space to spread out and arguably wasted space to heat and cool.

My point is simply that the EX is economical with its use of interior space, and in fact is not wasteful in design. Space is there where you need it, and then I love the cargo space that is available when the back seats are folded down.

u will notice that the majority of buyers here have not complained at all about it. Truth is, i think in the car reviews and stuff, they HAVE to look at the cons....

COULD the trunk space be bigger? Sure, but then i wouldnt have gotten an EX.

COULD the rear legroom be more spacious? Sure, ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There are so many options out there, one of those cars will most fit what you need if the EX35 doesnt.

considering i dont drive anyone by my gf in the car, the backseats are perma-retracted. it would be kinda nice if i could fully lay down in the back, but haha that's only for one reason and not a great one to complain about anyway

if you constantly have a packed car, then i can see where this may "feel" uncomfortable...but it will be in any of the other cars too!! unless the automobile was simply just BIGGER.

Thanks so much! This confirms my suspicion. I think that in reality, the space in the EX is really more than adequate. Somehow, lots of journalists seem to make a big thing about it. Thanks again!

Just went on a 5-hour drive for the weekend from NJ to VT, and the trunk space (stacked almost to the ceiling) was sufficient for 4 people (4 snowboards on roof rack). EX35 could use a little more back legroom and trunk space, but it's fine for my wife and my needs, since we rarely have people in the back seats. Figure there has to be sacrifice somewhere for the awesome handling!

This is what I wrote in another forum comparing the EX to a Murano. This is really what I observed about people and their EX...if space is more important than performance buy the bigger vehicle.

If you do a search on the internet for the EX35 forums you will find a common theme about why the folks are so fired up about this vehicle...performance is really fun! I have enjoyed people writing about the EX and "tricking" them out or personalizing their ride and talk about it passionately. I started shopping for a replacement company car for my Tribeca and came across this little guy (EX35). Really loved my Tribeca especially when it snows here over the last three years but wanted a chance at better hwy. mileage but more importantly wanted to get out of the SUV ride and back to a car. Looking at other AWD cars too and the Outback (again, had one before...very nice) as it had been redesigned. What I didn't expect was the fun the EX was to drive...I put on 35-40K a year and really looked for comfort first but really I was just replacing a vehicle, no big deal. I love all the creature comforts it has and bells and whistles to play with while driving but many vehicles offer that too...I was surprised I just liked the extra performance the EX has. So if the performance is no big deal...I'd go for the extra room...because the times you'll want it, you'll have it.

Thanks! You guys are making my decision so much more difficult! LOL! The EX35 is definitely smaller than what I would like to have on the inside, but then the FUN factor is just too much! LOL! I love it. I just wished that the gas mileage were a bit better, but I guess it's OK.... oh, and the reliability has to be better than Audi, right?

Anyway, they now need to just find me a very nice Dark Currant/Chestnut + Nav + Bose + Premium......... I am just so frustrated that they only had the Wheat interior here, and the dealers around here couldn't seem to find the combo that I wanted!!! YIKES!

I have the same question as the initial poster. Currently in our Ford Escape I can fit two baby seats in the back (one at the side, the other in the middle using the middle seat belt to hold the seat), and an adult can sit next to the two if necessary (relatively comfortably).

Would I be able to do the same thing in the EX35? Has anyone tried?

I would love to get the EX35, but it would be MUCH easier if I could show my wife that we could fit the same way as we fit in the Escape (I am not talking luggage here - I know I would have much less luggage space - and that should be ok).

Can't lie...IMHO probably not as much room as the Escape.

But an easy test is to go to a dealer and try...adjust the front seats to where you would drive in...get out and climb in the back and compare how difficult it is to do that vs. Escape. Once you get into the back seat it is comfortable but getting in and out is the adventure.

I find the room in the back to be adequate for my needs. I've let my friends drive the car during long drives so that I can try out the passenger seat and the rear seats. I was very comfortable in the rear. I especially like sitting behind the front passenger, since I get to look at all the pretty lights on the dash and the gauge cluster... and isn't that what it's all about? The pretty lights? (I'm kidding)

The cargo area is also fine; especially with the seats folded down. I've made plenty of trips to Ikea and have been able to fit many large items in the back.

Currant and Chestnut are a hard combo to find on the fully loaded version of the AWD Journey. I settled for Wheat, and it really is very nice. But you do have to keep on top of the seats (cleaning), since color will transfer from your clothing. I love the wheat, but if I could do it again, I'd probably go for the chestnut, since I believe it hides dirt better.

my wife, myself and our baby feel very comfortable in our ex. we were also turned away first after reading that people complained about tight space, but really it is not SUV by any means. The interior and exterior size is perfect for us, heck it is like it was made for us Trunk is not big, but it is okay for usual things and trips to the grocery shop
