I have this annoying creaking noise coming from my left rear spring, and I can't figure out why. I can grab the spring itself and just by moving it up/down it will creak just like when I am driving. Is it possible the spring is bad? I was under the assumption that these don't really go bad...they are made of steel I believe. Also, it's the stock spring, not aftermarket. Thanks

Springs do age, but slowly.Old car, springs sag, very few corrode and crack(although Ford did do a recall because of weather sealant not applied to springs which they claimed could eventually cause failure.

Most of the time, it's the spring perch and associated parts that go bad, causing noise.

Time for new suspension regardless..

Thanks for the reply. It probably is the spring rubbing against the perch, or something like that. I already replaced the shocks, so if it's just noise it's not worth spending more money for a new suspension setup.
