Fortunately my 1994 Q45a seems rust free but I would be interested to understand where this model eventually begins to rust so that I can take some preventative action

These cars are suprisingly rust free mostly... My Q has seen 10 years of life in the salt belt, and there isnt a spot of rust on it (theres a few bots and things of that nature that are rusted on the exhaust)....

For the last 4 years my car has been most likely neglected in the wash department... Ive been under the body many times, and see no indication of rust anywhere......

The key is to keep the underbody rinsed.... Dont laugh, but when it gets warm during the winter take your lawn sprinkler (best kind is the kind that shoots water up in a fan back and forth) and stick it under there, moving it in various positions under the car...... Works like a charm!

Mine lived in NJ for the first 3 years of its life - Some minor corrosion on the exhaust bolts and components, but nothing worth fretting over.

NONE anywhere else, including inside the fenderwells or anywhere else. Infiniti's are remarkably resistant to corrosion.

There's one potential bad spot in rear doorwells, I think.

My '92 Q was purchased in NY by original owner but has spent most of it's time in the Southeast, so I don't worry about it.

The one place I've heard mentioned is in the RR door well at the weld near the snap on cover that holds the carpet down. There's another thread on here about something that may be similar on the J30.

My 92 Q, with 181.5k, was raised in California, spent most of its time in Ohio, a brief while in Oklahoma, the last 3 years in Washington, and now she's back in St Louis. Exhaust is leaking somewhere in the middle but thats it. People always assume the car was winter stored. IMHO, the body and paint of the Q is enviable even to new cars. In a parking lot, it just stands out as the one thats always clean and shiny no matter what.

That happens even on the Q's not in the salt belt I understand. Repo's Q (my brother) had the same problem. We did the same fix as nat.

I think it also applies to the LR door well/rocker which is where mine has it. It hasn't been of much concern because it seems to be surface rust only and hasn't changed noticably in the past four years since I first saw it. However, has anyone seen this area rust through? I so, I'd like to take a more proactive approach than just dabbing on some primer.

It is a small world, just discovered that someone on our subdivision is possibly selling their 1995 Q45 Pearl White, 1 owner 55,000 miles. Went to look and it is imacculate apart from corrosion in the rear wheel well visible when the door is open and some surface corrosion at the inside edges of the rear wheel arches. Must be the Western NY winters and the amount of salt used. Having seen this I am going to get my 94 Q45a (currently rust free) undersealed and I am going to think about how to best protect the vulnerable areas from abuse during the winter months

I live in south bend,in. and I bought a 91' Q45 about 2 years ago,. when i bought it, it had numerous rust spots,. both rear wheel wells had two each,.which were pretty bad,. and very ugly,. it also had one underneath the driver's side mirror, i got these all fixed a couple months ago for about $500,. which wasa really good deal,. since then two more have shown up,one on the roof, right where the front window is sealed, and the other on the passanger side bumbper,. both are still freash and not bad, but it'll cost me another $200 for those,. on top of it all,. the car was rust proofed about 4 years ago,.,..damn indiana winters:o(

I believe there is a TSB and replacement part on the early window buttons.
