I was going through the records on my car that I got from Infiniti, and the car has documented oil changes every 3K at Infiniti dealers (good). But it occured to me that I have no idea whether to have the dealer change the oil with synthetic, normal, or blended oil the next time it's in. I suppose there could only be benefits from switching to synthetic (only have 67K on the car so it's not likely to develop leaks from a switch to synthetic), but on the flip side it's EXPENSIVE. What do our VQ30DE-Ks need?

The dealer will not use synthetic unless you ask for it. I personally use Q full synthetic. It is more expensive, but I will pay the extra if it makes the car last a little longer.

My '98 is just about to roll to 76k and I switched it to Mobil 1 synthetic the very first oil change I did. It's worth the extra money IMO. I also use factory Nissan oil filters.

Take your own synthtetic oil, and M1 fliter from IoS and crush washer and the dealer may only charge you for labor.

I also envirolution my engines before the switch.

Well I called the dealer that did the last oil change on it (the dealer I bought it from) and they said they used a synthetic blend oil. Is it safe for me to go back to regular oil or go to synthetic or do I have to stay with the blend?

when the blend is used you can go either way, unless i'm mistaken. it's once you go with full synthetic that theres no turning back

I guess I'll have to see what the price differential is between synthetic and blend the next time I'm in for an oil change.

Best synthetic oil to get imo... is Mobil 1 Supersyn 5w30 for winter and 10w30 for summer... That is what I use with a M1 oil filter. ($55)

The owner before me had cheapo vavoline in it for a while... ugh... and I just used it for about 1000k and I changed it. Eventhough it is... expensive... It is better and last longer than non-synthetic oils and is more worth it. I just changed mine in oct and I have went 4k since then and I about about to change it once I hit around 6-7k. Eventhough they say you can do 9K with these oils I wouldn't for older cars llike ours with 100K plus on the engine because the oil gets dirty quick with all the racing/reving we do. haha...

And I have become to believe somehow that synthetic oil gets dirty faster and burns up more than normal oil. Could be just mine though, but after 3,500k my oil was about a quart down(No leaks) and the oil was black instead of a golden brown(what I am used too).
