Hello fellow members,

I have been thinking of changing my differential oil and transmission oil at 75k miles on my 06 M35. I purchased the car with 61k and now it has 72k. I feel the transmission kind of delays when I'm on the free way at high speed and I slow down it pauses between 4rd and 3rd gear and rev high. Also at cold starts it stays on first gear for long time and When it shifts to 2nd there is an unnoticeable jerk that I kind of feel it but no mechanic or friend was able to replicate that. My car has been trouble free since I bought it last march and the only thing that I've done to it was changing oil and filter with fully synthetic at 63k and again at 68k and I've had a ticks noise when I was shifting to R and when I was coming to a complete stop at low speed and the mechanic advised me that rear Axles gets dirty at this type of mileage and they stat making this noise his solution was either change at the price of $300 per axle or take them out degrease them and clean them and put back on which I chose and that noise has been gone. I'm planing on keeping this car for a while so I want to make sure my fluids and oils are changed regularly to keep the car longer. That being said, am I too late to change transmission and differential fluid at 75k miles and reset the transmission. Or should I keep driving and don't change nothing since it hasn't been changed before? Sorry for the long post and I appreciate your inputs.

I would do the trans at an Infiniti dealer only

The diff can be done at a local shop for cheap.

Sooo...transmission drain and fill vs flush has been asked on the forum previously.
lots of opinions on pros and cons:

Differential Fluid Change:

If you're mechanically inclined you could save some coin by changing the differential fluid yourself.

I just did a drain and fill of the transmission fluid--it was pretty dirty. I'll probably do it again before the recommended interval
since I don't think that is good as a flush by the dealer.

I'm a flush guy and it's worked well. Perform it every two years or 60k. Diffs at the same time. The ticking noise from d to r has been discussed here. It's the rear axles that make that sound. The splines on the axles are not snug against the wheel hubs hence the sound. To fix remove the rear axles clean and lube the splines and reinstall. I think someone here suggested to swap L and R as well.

The shifting could simply be excessive buildup in the transmission. You'll need to flush it and possibly even twice.

I wouldn't think after 70k miles that the trans would have a lot of build-up. Normally on cars with 60-100k miles the trans fluid still looks pretty good. That's not to say that it doesn't need changed, I think after 60k miles it's time to change the fluid.

A mechanical "flush" can be done equivalently at home if you want to. You can buy the same cleaners that transmission flush machine uses.. However if you're not going to be doing this DIY style, then just take it to a shop for a fluid change.. It can't hurt! I don't think you have to go to the dealer per-se, however you'll want to be sure to get the J-matic fluid if you take it to an indy shop.

Diff fluid is also good to change as well...

Sorry, when I said flush I actually meant a fluid exchange process not pumping a cleaning agent in then fresh oil. As you are having it exchanged ensure you cycle through the gears.

Thanks for all the responds, will be getting the oils from the dealer and doing it my self with a help of my mechanic friend. Any suggestions on what oils better than others!
