Hello guys, I have a question, and i wanted to know if enyone could help me answer it.

I have a 1991 nessan 240sx with the ka24de motor, I was thinking of adding on a turbo to it, but a friend made a suggestion to add a super charger instead. So far i have only head people talk about adding turbos to their 240sx's. My questions are can i ad a supper charger, if sow what else would i have to add (example, use bigger belt, intercooler), and in your opinion is it a good idea to use the super charger instead of the turbo, advantages or disadvantages. Eny info will be appreciated.

advantage of a supercharger over a turbo is lag.......disadvantages are that you loose somewhere around 20-40hp from a supercharger that aren't lost by a turbocharger.(cause its belt driven)

there has been people talkin about putting a smaller mercedez supercharger(called kompressor), but i haven't really seen 1 that i remember. now there was a guy that put a supercharger on an rb series engine(which also had the TT setup, guess an rb26dett) so that would be a way to put it on the ka since its same engine layout(cept the rb is bigger).

i've never seen a supercharger for the ka24, there might be, trucks tend to get supercharged during the era of our cars.

but advatages would be the supercharger is generally less prone to detenation, heat, and can make boost throughout the powerband.

downside is that the superchargers usually have limited boost capabilities, and are more expensive generally.

intercoolers, probably about like a turbo intercooler, ripp modifications makes supercharger kits with intercoolers designed to work with windshield washer fluid and water. (i think)

as for anything else, i haven't a clue.

I hate to say it, but how many times has the "supercharge a KA" thread come up? Go ahead and try it if you wish, the kompressor idea is definitely intriguing. Centrifugal Superchargers are also attractive, but they are pretty much turbos without an exhaust turbine.

I guess the attractiveness of a turbo is that there is alot of support out there already for a turbo in a 240. This is probably thanks to the fact that Nissan has been implementing turbochargers in their vehicles for a very long time. Even the engines that were never meant to include a turbo seem to have some turbo-friendly features. Such as the KA24DE's knock sensor and piston oil jets.
