I was asking in another post about changing fluids (Warrant work) in my M45 30K Someone said I could do it myself. Dealer said they needed a machine to get all 15 qts. of transmission fluid out . Is it necessary to get all of the fluid out? If so how do I do It myself?

Use a machine so you don't void your warranty. Really, it's a no brainer.

You can do a drain and fill, but you'll only get about 50% of the fluid out.

A dealer-operated power flush actually gets all the fluid out of the converter and valve body.

A couple drain and fills will approximate a full flush sufficiently.

Welcome aboard, let's hear more about your M!

Two points to consider.

1. It is indeed safest to use the dealer machine to get it all out. The new transmissions are a little bit more sealed than usual, and it is going to be a pain to do it yourself. A proper flush is best. Do it every 25k miles and your transmission will reward you with longevity!

2. Remember to only use Nissan Fluid J, else you will definitely void your warranty! These new fluids are required in the new transmissions - they used to be more expensive than usual, but have come down in price recently.
