Moving this to 240 tech.

So long as you have some sort of diverter valve on your turbo system, you'll be fine. The stock setup will have a diverter valve next to the side mount intercooler.

Sell me your car.

Or come to my friends shop to get work done.

Either way...

Holding boost and boost spikes are effects controlled by the wastegate, not the blow off valve. OP yes. You need to run a BOV. Intentionally subjecting your turbo to surge is stupid.

what about older factory turbo cars? my 300zx turbo has no blow off valve, no intercooler just straight pipe from the turbo to tine intake manifold.

IIRC some CA18DET's didn't have BOV's. Like Bart said checking for the bypass valve will let you know if you need to run anything aftermarket or not. FWIW the bypass valve tends to be a little leaky in my experience.

if u werent running any kind of bov or recirc then with one u should see less turbo lag because surge decreses the turbos rpm between shifts.

Either go with Tial or HKS.

The main reason older cars and some new stock turbocharged cars dont have BOV's is because low boost level surge does little to nothing to a turbocharger.

you get what u pay for......a friend had an rfl that leaked and one had a forge that came with stripped out hardware and wasnt adjustable. i have a second gen hks and it works perfect even after some elemental abuse.
