It replaces the AIV plug in the downpipe. If I intend to use an aftermarket downpipe, do I still need one of those? Or is it just for the stock SR dowpipe?

thanks in advance.

that is actually the turbo extension, which comes before the downpipe. you can get aftermarket extensions if you want. you only need to buy one of those plugs if your old one is unuseable again.

Oops, my bad, i got the two confused again.

Anyway, if my old AIV plug is unusable, that shouldn't matter, we don't use the AIV plug in USDM applications I thought. If that is the case, could I just leave the AIV plug in there, and not have the wires going anywhere, or do I need to actually take the AIV plug out?

i would take it out and weld the hole shut. or just buy an aftermarket turbo extension, the aiv is not even necessary unless you are emissions obsessed i think.
