So when I tore my motor apart 8 months ago, I placed the lifters in a stainless containter full of oil. They were placed in consecutive order, so that when I put it together, they would go in their respective bores.

With them in place when I push down on them with my finger, most dont budge. 3 squish in a tiny bit, and one just barely moves the smallest amount.

The motor had low mileage when torn apart, but Im just curious If I should order a set of new lifters from nissan?

I've got the ability to have them rebuilt through a freind of mine. You'll have to send me your lifters, I give them to him, he gives them back to me, and I send them back to you. It's about $80 + shipping. WAY cheaper than new and they work just as well.

If I shipped them out monday morning overnight how long would I be looking at for a turnaround time?

Also, the lifters that are stuck....they are essentially solid lifters, no? What type of harm can be done using lifters in this condition?

I'm one of the persons thats had this done with the help of Ryan and i can assure you he means business! The lifters i got back looked AMAZING compared to how they looked when i pulled them out. If you want, check out my rebuild thread i believe theres pictures of them there. My head is/was rebuilt and the lifters are in there and ready to go. Im currently bolting the head and block together as of right now. They are suppose to squish but not stick. Obviously not all the oil can be compressed and some goes out the little hole at the top and side of the lifter. This lubricates the camshaft and the lifter bore. When i did this about two months ago, it took a little over a week iirc and i wasnt in a rush to get them back.

so my old man is trying to tell me that because they have been soaking in oil for so long they are full of oil (pumped up)

hes trying to tell me that I cant squish them because it takes more force than my finger to squish the oil out.

Im like wtf cause three or four of them compress a little, the others dont.

I blew compressed air into the side of one of them, and sludge, not oil spewed onto my shirt.

So a brand new/rebuilt lifter when installed in its bore will be squishable by finger, even if it is fully saturated (pumped up) with oil?

The oil comes into the lifter from the opening in the side. It leaves via the opening in the top, which also lubricates the cam. When it's installed in the motor, the oil pressure mostly prevents the lifter from compressing. If the lifter is clean and free from debris, then it should be compressable. If it's not, then it may be bad. I can't promise you that when you start the motor up and run it that they won't pump up and be fine. The ones that won't compress may be compressed already and aren't de-compressing. It's just kinda hard to tell.

The way I look at it, for the $80+shipping (lets say $90) that's relatively cheap insurance to know they'll be fine.

And just so you know, I'm not really making money on this whole deal, I'm just doing this as a favor to my fellow NICO brethren.

Dont the lifters need to go back in their respective bores?

If I sent out 16 lifters, I would have to mark them somehow underneath, would I not?

No, not unless you've had some severe wear between the lifter and the head, and if you have then you've got bigger problems anyway. The lifters aren't fit to each spot on the head. In fact, if everything is working like I should, the lifter shouldn't ever actually touch the head. The oil should keep it away from it.

And yes, the lifters from an 88 pulsar nx se will work just fine.
