ive had my 2008 G37 coupe for about a month and a half.

i got some 20s put on it yesterday.

before i got the 20s put on, it drove straight for the most part, but if anything, id say it would pull to the right..

.. after i got the 20s on, it still drives straight for the most part, but if anything, it now goes to the left..

.. and while highway driving, my steering wheel gets kinda shaky at times.

do i need an alignment? or are the wheels possibly not balanced right?

If shaking then it would seem the wheels aren't perfectly balanced.

Most Gs do probably need an alignment every year or so. So it wouldn't hurt to get one.

Do the wheels have the proper hub size with the 20's?? If not then you are solely relying on the lug nuts to center your rim and in that configuration you will always have some form of shaking it seems. If so, try and find a set of hub centric rings that are sized properly for the rims and Nissan's hub size.

The factory brake rotor has a ring that sticks out appx 1/4" around the center hub. The factory wheels have a hole in the rim that matches. When the factory wheel mounts on the car the two combine to solidify wheel positioning. This is called hub-centric.

If you purchase wheels where the center hub is larger and mount those rims on the car, the wheels are centered not by the center hub but by the lugs. This is called lug-centric.

Hub-centric is much better than lug-centric and if you are lug-centric you can feel shakes and shimmy's through the wheel because the rims are not 100% centered. So, in order to fix that you should purchase a set of hub-centric rings to go on the car before you put the wheel on. These come in metal or plastic and I would stay away from plastic. Find out what the hub size is on the rims and find some rings which will work with Nissans 66.06mm outer hub bore.
