Hey guys just picked up my 89 240 SX today, and the guy who had it before me took the dash completley off, he said because there are wires that need to be changed or swapped when the SR goes in. Now my question is: Is this true? Would I be better off leaving the dash off until after I put the SR in, or can I start reassembling the dash now.

Real excited about finally getting the 240, now I just have to wait to sell my other car to get the SR. Can't wait Chris

Never heard of stripping the dash for the sr wiring. All the wiring is accessible via the connector ends. You would only need to leave the dash off if it were automatic and you were going to do the manual swap to it.

Well then I'll be putting it back on then, but first gonna replace the head unit, the stock one is a piece of crap Chris

It's pretty intuitive, except for the three bolts under the vents on top. I just finished pulling mine, and the one thing that'd make it easier too, is if you pull the lever for steering wheel adjustment.

you can remove the stereo with out pulling off the dash. what you need is a copy of the Chilton guide, it is really nice for pulling apart a 240. also the aussie silva pages have good diagrams of the s14 chasis.

If you're talking about installing a headunit, you can just pop the black plastic around the unit off without any tools. The headunit is held in with a bracket underneath.

Thanks for the reply's guys. I didn't want to break anything while tryin to take it off, so I just wanted to make sure. I got it off no problem, now i just gotta buy new wires. Anybody know where i can find replacement covers for the rear speakers? they seem to be missing.

if you have stock speakers i would just get new speakers, they come with covers. Concepts are good and only like 50 bucks, or go to any audio shop and they should have covers.
