Look in the engine bay at the brake master cylinder. If you have 2 lines coming from it, it's ABS. If 3, non-ABS. Also, if I remember correctly, ABS cars should have a "double-nippled" unit under the hood agaisnt the firewall on the passenger side. And finally, I think ABS cars, when turned on, have an ABS light that comes on for a second in the gauge cluster.

You could do what I did, just slammed on the brakes when it was raining.

I agree with the rain theory but generally, just slam the brakes and turn the front wheels a little bit. My Non-ABS car locks up the fronts in a heartbeat when you brake hard while turning.

A ABS master looks night and day from a Non. But just hit the brakes hard in a low-traction area (dirt) or just do it really hard on the street.

Next time you take off your wheel, check for electrical connections on or around the hub. abs works off of speed sensors at the wheels, that the only electrical equipment around a wheel, even if you have traction control you must have abs first because that is what it works through.

Just as a quick check - look in your fuse boxes(not sure where it'd be on an S14), see if there's a fuse in the 'traction', or 'ABS' slot. If you don't have ABS, it's unlikely the last owner would simply leave the fuse out(unless they intended to disable it). Also, there's a relay labelled the same thing in the relay box(under hood), however my S13 had one it that spot, presumably for another accessory(I don't have ABS).

Best way is as slide suggested.

Don't cars equipped with ABS usually have it stamped on the brake pedal? Or was this only prevelant when ABS 'hit the market'? Check the instrument cluster- don't know if S14's have an ABS function light or not.

I hate to be a search-whore, but seriously, there are about 500 posts regarding ABS and 99% of them are 'd00d d0 1 liek h4ev ABS thx imn uber n00b wth caarz lololol!!' I mean, if you have a question, there's not a problem asking, but it just takes everyone else much longer to search through the lists to find something that also pertains to the subject.

Don't mean to go off on you, just a plea.

Yeah, I know this is an old post, but there's just so freakin' many of them.
