OK, a stupid question! On the other hand, it should be easy to answer...

I need to replace my front CV axles. The parts store needs to know if I have ABS. Just because I have a little test light on the dash for ABS isn't enough to make me feel certain to order a part from that, and I rather not take the minivan out, get it going somewhere likely to skid and slam on the brakes...

Is the mere presence of the idiot light enough to be certain that the vehicle was built with ABS, or is there another way (other than the afore cited) to tell?

Thanks!

Welcome to NICO!

ABS is standard on all three trim levels, so yes your vehicle has ABS.

Thank-you!

I just can't understand why the parts store (O'Reilly) has a total of three for this vehicle, ONE premium new, then the two remanufactured, having a price difference of about three dollars, have the only difference of one is for no ABS and the other is for with ABS...

i guess some models didn't have the ABS reluctor ring on the cv driveshalft...

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Quest/1999_Quest/ax.pdf

scroll to page AX-6 the bottom pic where it's showing you the cotter pin/ and nut on the lower ball joint; right above it is the ABS reluctor ring and to the front of that you should see the sensor mounted w/ one screw on the hub & that one single wire. some on this forum says to remove / move this sensor out of the way to prevent accidental breakage when doing this job. of course, the FSM isn't too clear about this part of the job...

notice that reluctor ring next to the slpined shaft that mates to the hub?

another generic pic of the ABS ring...

the premium is BRAND NEW, not remanufactured from a core return. Hey, maybe some CA models went cheapo and didn't require/need the ABS system <shrugs> they ALL carry a lifetime warranty so your choice really. i don't have problems with the reman units of my autozone / advance auto parts stores in my area

keep a copy of the receipt in your glovebox, eventhough they linked your records w/ a phone number...

I had the fun of doing the driver's side half shaft yesterday, the pictures are quite familiar. The wire to the ABS sensor had dashes on it - I suspect a graphical representation of what it was for. Could not get the sensor loose but did release both tie-downs, and probably a good thing as the weight of the knuckle (the assembly that received the half shaft along with all the brake structure for that wheel) was even heavier than I guestimated. Real fun wrangling it back on...

Thank you very much for the follow up!
