Ok, I just jacked up the rear of my car and put it in first and both tires spun! I believe that I have a limited slip but can you tell me for sure? Here is my Vin number and what all else can you tell me about my car? JN1MS34P9NW108614 MLS13FUWS2 AG2 G KA24(DE)2389 FS5W71C RC40

What does all this mean??? and does the J at the first stand for Japan which means it was made in Japan?

The First Number of the VIN, dictated the following.

J = Manufactured in Japan1 = Manufactured in the US2 = Manufactured in Canada3 = Manufactured in Mexico

All S13/S14's have a "J" prefixed VIN

look on the right side of the diff. (from underneath) and there will be an orange sticker there that says "VLSD."

But does this still mean that my car has limited slip? just normally the inside wheel will spin?

Is there a way to find out if it has limited slip by looking at the Vin Number?

I doubt it has limited slip .... if the tires are on jacks and you put it in gear and both tires spin this is normal ....

look for the sticker he was referring to ... other than that its highly doubtful you have limited slip and I dont think you can tell by the VIN but i could be wrong

You can't tell by the VIN number. You have to decode the Model number located underneath the VIN on the engine firewall plate.

How do I decode it?

"S14: Checking for LSD using Car's Model number

Find the car's identification plate on the firewall, passenger side.

Check digit 18 in the model # (not the VIN!).

For Feb '94 - July '95: A, C, or E, = LSD

F, or "-" = NO LSD

For July '95 - July '96: A, C, or F = LSD

B, D, or "-" = NO LSD"

off of 240sx.org....search..heh

Just ran the free carfax check on your VIN. 1992 240SX Coupe. So sorry ace the s14 code probably won't help him. Nova, unless your car has the SuperHICAS option your car will not have an LSD stock, unless it was swapped or upgraded.

easy way to tell if its limited slip. while both rear tires are off the ground car off and in neutral. spin one of the tires by hand. if the tire on the other side turns the same direction it is limited slip. another easy way. leave one tire on the ground and try to spin the one thats not on the ground. if you cant turn it its limited slip. in your model code off the plate the rc40 is your driveaxle and that will tell you if its limited slip or not the fs5w71c tells you its a 5 speed 2 wheel drive manual trans

Well the fact that it says KA24DE on the engine plate rules out the Japanese spec thing, and a VLSD should have larger fin shaped things to cool the differential. Take a peak at what you have. If its an S13 coupe there is a high high high chance it doesnt have VLSD since no S13 coupes came with a factory VLSD.

Well all I know is that on a left turn I can burn the right rear tire, and on a right turn I can burn the left rear tire. That is pefOrmed on dry concrete in first gear. If I somehow am mistaken about both tires being able to burnout, then... I well.. I have no idea, maybe its just in my head.

dude just go outside drop the clutch at like 5000rpm, hold the brakes for 5 seconds let off drive 10 ft away, get out of your car and if there is a patch with 2 thick hot strips you have a LSD if there is one strip you got an open diff. Its that easy and its kinda fun.
