If you have 8 spark plugs, you either have a Z22 engine or a Z24 engine. It should say on the side of the block in the front driver-side corner. The Z22 was in trucks from 81-82 I believe, and from 83-86 is the Z24 stock. I might be a year off in there, too. the Z22 is a 2.2 liter, the Z24 is a 2.4 liter.

The 2.0 liter L20B only has four spark plugs.

The year screams Z24. Captainzeros, there are Z18s and Z20 also that carry 8 plugs, yes there are the L20Bs in some trucks but the year doesn't correspond. I believe some up to 82 carried the Z20 or L20B but I can't be sure of the year.

I believe 81-82 were the Z22 and 1980 was the L20B.8 plug L motors are news to me, learn something new every day.

As far as years corresponding, I learned long ago to never assume something is going to be stock, be it cars or anything else. I'm about the fourth or fifth owner of my 720.

L motors and Z motors use the same block but the L motor uses 4 plugs, whilst the Z uses 8 plugs. There are some CA engines that use 8 plugs as well but these are not for emission but for added power as they fire together.
