I was driving a few nights ago on a 50 mile ride on a pretty dark highway and I noticed my lights do not seem as bright. I know the 97' Q didn't come with anything special just halogens...I know my battery is kinda old too, actually it is 9 years old!!! But I haven't worrked about it since the car fires up even after several weeks of no use.

Do bulbs get tired, my 05' XTerra seems brigher and it is just halogen too...recommendations on replacement bulbs, I used PIAA's in the past and they seem to burn out too fast.

I like the SilverStars, but read Qship96 thread on some others he's currently trying.

Bulb temperatures do change and that's why a new one never matches one that is more than 25% along in its life cycle.

Incandescent bulbs do get dimmer as they are used, although the halogen varieties are somewhat better in this regard.

Your headlight lenses may also be causing some dimming - Old plastic loses some of its clarity, especially if it's seen a lot of sunlight. Also, if the lenses are no longer watertight, you may have some condensation on the inside, or water deposits on the reflector coating.

Thanks fo the tips. My hosing are completely sealed up and are quite clear...the car is a garage queen/king so that is not the issue.

I wil look into some new bulbs and see what that does, Silvestars or something else, I think that must be my issue.

Candlepower has the Toshiba HIR bulbs for reasonable prices - They're pretty hard to beat for brightness, unless you want to go the HID conversion route.

Toshiba HIR bulbs are only manufactured for 9005 & 9006 applications, and the HIR2{for the low beam 9006 application} was just discontinued by Toshiba- better hurry if you want some!!!!!! My shelf is stocked.

I only have enough for future replacements of burned out ones currently in use in family vehicles. If you hurry, Susquehanna Motorsports still have some left in stock I believe- here is their website http://WWW.rallylights.com

DON'T buy SilverStars...a waste of money, lumens are lower than the XtraVisions, and they don't last as long as the XtraVisions. That's what I have in my car now. Silverstars...been there, hated that.

I replaced the tail lights on one side of the Seville and they were MUCH brighter than the ones on the right.

Well, did you eventually replace the ones on the right then?

Thanks, I do not see any Toshiba lights on their site but I will call on Monday. So the 97' Q uses 7006 replacements?

Yeah, it looked odd. The difference was enough to make it seem like the brakes were applied but only the left brake lights were coming on.
