A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

i am currently considering buying a 91 sentra with a ga16de 5 speed just to drive but i want to turbo it closer to summer time. how much wheel horse power do these engines make in good to fair condition reliably and what breaks first. if i need to end up doing any kind of an engine rebuild i will do that and tap the oild pan before i even drive it so it will be a days job to put a turbo kit on. im having trouble finding info and it kinda surprizes me. i am ka-t now so i know all the bs just let me know how strong the ga is . lb

Thats doubling the stock horsepower and some. 250 whp in a sentra is crazy, trust me I know. Been there and moved on up to 280. 1.6 is really not designed for boost at all, but people do it occasionally. I would recommend building the internals if you plan to do so. The other deterent is fabricating manifolds, downpipes, etc.. YOu want a turbo sentra and plan to spend that much time, effort and money into, might as well start with the SE-R.

i wouldnt make the not having available turbo parts hold me back. i have enough stuff for the entire kit in my garage. i can make manifolds and whatnot oof i have to. how far does it go before you break a piston or rod??? sr20s are overrated esspecially when i can have the car with a ga for a couple hundred bucks. and the ga is cast iron. se-r's are too rare and expensive i'd rather start with a car that i can get a motor for 50 bucks for.

Granted, GA cars are a dime a dozen, but for all the work involved, you might as well swap one of the very readily available turbo SRs into any Sentra, because the costs will about even out.

SRs are a bit overrated in some respects, but I'm not sure "the GA is cast iron" is enough to put it necessarily over the top. SRs make more power more easily.

If you've got the equipment, time, and energy, go ahead and turbo a GA. There's some fast ones out there.

I realize this is an old post but I figured I'd share some insight.

With proper fuel and tuning the GA is a GREAT motor to turbo. First the combustion chamber is very detonation resistant, moreso than the SR20. The bottom end has proven to be stronger than everyone originally thought as well. Lots of people making more than 200WHP without issue.

I switched from the old 240 MAF/370CC combo to a Cobra MAF/50LB combo and it solved the old issues of having the MAF maxed out. JWT has astandard program for this and aside from my car there are two other people who have since done this upgrade. For what it is the car just rocks! As others have stated a stock GA16 usually dyno's in the low 90's (manual transmission). So to make over 250WHP on the stock bottom end is damn impressive!

I will agree that the SR is easier to make power on and is the better building block here, but the GA16 is no slouch!

I definitely won't argue with a 12.73, that's for sure.
