I have a '96 s-14. I am trying to locate the factory amp. I have looked from the trunk to under the rear deck to no avail.

Do I have an amp? All the stock stuff was still in when I bought the car, speakers, head unit, etc... I know the guy didnt change any of that.

Is it above the rear deck between the speakers below the carpet?

Help! I want that POS outa there.

I beleive that not all s14's had the rear amps in the back deack. Easiest way to tell is to go pop your trunk, and look. If there aren't two large boxes bolted to the bottom of the rear deck you don't.

The 96 240SE has two amps which are located inbetween the stock 6 1/2s in the rear. I don't think the non SE's come with stock amps but i could be wrong.

If you don't have a factory amp back there do you need an amp to run speakers back there or will a new headunit suffice? If anyone recalls, I'm planning to put in 4 new speakers (I have 2 right now-- up front, but I just bought a rear deck lid with speaker holes) and a new headunit (to replace the tape deck I have). Do I need to get a new amp? Thanks.

I have a S14 SE and it has sh!tty set of Clarion amps. They're so crappy, I think I blew one of them out. Anyhow, generally speaking, most OEM audio systems blow! The key word is generally people! Don't freakin jump down my throat saying s*** like, "so and so car has a pretty kick *** audio system stock."

If you do go with a popular namebrand aftermarket headunit, it should be enough power to run all 4 speakers. The assumption is that all want is to have some decent sounding tunes while driving. If you decided to add some subs, then you'll have to get an amp.
