OK, so these rebuild kits are everywhere, but are they worth it? can you properly rebuild a blown turbo at home? any first hand expirence or advice?

Here are just a few sites that sell the kits-

Really?! well then my question or you is, how long did they last? - Here is a quote from someone who did an extensive turbo rebuild over on the Drift Works forum. He even wrote an installation tutorial.

"As per edited post 1, the turbo has been doing its job for about 1200km pretty well but started smoking again. Shaft play is 'ok' . Conclusion: not worth rebuilding, just buy a new one!"

here is the link incase you want to do some further reading, its actually a really good write up....http://www.driftworks.com/foru....html

And where did you get your rebuild kit from?

Bought mine off of ebay. The turbo was functioning quite well the day I pulled my motor and put it in another car to make room for my built SR. I pulled the turbo for a rebuild back in July 04 and used it up until May 07. So I probably had a good 30,000+ miles on it.

The guy that you linked either screwed the pooch somewhere or he just had a sub-par part.
