ya so i want to peice together a turbo kit for my ka. i want to do it cheap as possible. i think im gonna buy a turbo manifold from ssautocrome for 250 bucks. but what motors (besides the sr) have a t25/28 turbo flange. ill prob pull an intercooler out of a old volvo and piece the piping together with what we have laying around shop. do 300zx injectors fit in a ka. and its ok...im prepared to get flamed, i just want to experiment and see the cheapest way possible. im not that worried if i blow up my engine in the process...i need a new one anyways

Ok well, I guess you could do it that way but turbo kits have gotten alot cheaper now-a-days. Why dont you see if anyone is selling a used kit in the classifieds? After you do fabrication, Tuning and Installation. Your cheap turbo kit just became expensive.

ya i want to do this as more of a learning experience than anything else. i have enough money to go out and buy a turbo kit. thats not the problem. i work in a full service auto and body shop so the fabricating is no biggie. i just need to figure out what cars i can pull stuff off of...

yes! a frankenstiened nissan 240 turbo kit!!!

i love seeing people do "junkyard" build-ups - scavanging oem parts from other vehicles to improve the performance. good luck. use as few custom parts as possible. and let keep us updated

I'd go for a T3 manifold and find a T3 from a Z31. Its easier to find, can give you more power, and its cheaper (my pull-a-part sells them for $50). Also take a look in the 'start here' sticky in the KA-T forum. Theres a link to a list of OEM intercoolers.

VG injectors fit (you want the 95-96 version). Grab a BOV from a 1st gen Eclipse/Talon.

the only thing about a t3 manni/turbo is that nothing bolts up, ic piping and downpipe has to be custom, and custom costs money. with a t2 manni, a sr downpipe bolts up and only the cold pipe has to be fabbed.

if i were to do something like this, i would try to stick with all nissan parts... but you can't go wrong with a 1g dsm bov! they're super reliable. when modified (the bov), they can hold well over 20#s of boost.

i know the 1g dsm bov came stock on the rb20, so it's sort of a nissan part lol.

if you're going with a very cheap set up, why are you using upgraded injectors? you can keep the stock ones and use a FMU/RRFPR. (Fuel Management Unit/ Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator).

Agreed, alot of people don't give them enough credit. Cheap and they work very well, I even have one lying around. I was going to use it while I was waiting for parts to come in...I have no patience at all.

yeah, my first purchase of SR 370cc's were all jacked up and gave me many headaches. I should've just bought an FMU and use my stock injectors that has been working well for a long time.

heartofaskyline - I reccomend going with a 7:1 or 8:1 disc FMU if you do go that route. you're going to have to do some researching if you're not familiar with what that is.

i wanna make this buildup as cheap as possibe. basically the only thing i want to buy is the turbo manifold. i want everything to come from the junkyard. you know, just to see what happens. i figure bigger injectors will be easy to come across.

yes bigger injectors are easy to come across however you still need something to tune it with. The cheapest way to tune would be a piggyback and a used SAFC is probably around 150$. A FMU goes for about 100$ and you don't have to tune it. BUT, I HIGHHLY reccomend upgrading your fuel pump if you're going with the FMU.

If you know what you're doing, a ka-t set up can be very cheap. Stock exhaust is terrible also, I would highly oppose going that route. At least go with a QTP electric cut out or a cheap straight pipe exhaust.

Ok, here me out, bigger injectors need a controller of some type. The cheapest being a SAFC. The you'll need either a dyno tune or a wideband. So that plus the injectors is $300 on the way cheap side of things. Or $100 for the FMU and you're done.

Check for used turbo or remanfactured turbo's through websites, not just ebay. Ebay sells alot of really bad turbo's for cheap. I don't want to see you get burned.

The hardest part is using a T25 flanged turbo, they just suck ***. You'd be so much better with a T3 sized turbo.
