i posted a little wordage here about my efforts to reinforce the stock transmission mount. Basically just wanted to share this with the world. Maybe someone else has done it, but I cant recall having seen it on here. So go check it out if you want. Any questions dont hesitate to ask.

Uh, what's to be sure about. He urethaned his trans mount.

I actually did this to mine a few days ago, along with the motor mounts. I'm still letting them harden. I used something a little tougher though, polyurethane construction adhesive.

Can't wait to put em on, it's gonna ROCK!

So you sucked them clean and refilled them?

their hollow. just fill them up with stuff.

-rowman - where did you find the polyurethan construction adhesive? could you post pics of the motor mounts as well. i plan on doing those next, just wondering what they look like inside.

$2.67 a tube from Home Depot! I took pics but haven't uploaded them yet.

I basically cleaned them REAL good, then took a 3/16" drill bit and drilled into each of the mount "layers", one hole on each side. Squeeze out the fluid, wash them good to make sure the insides are free of material.

Then I plugged em full of the poly adhesive until the stuff came out the holes. Also I wedged a few scredrivers in the mount just to keep them somewhat expanded while the adhesive hardened. After I drilled the mounts and squeezed out the fluid, the mounts seemed to sag a bit.

They've been sitting for over 48 hours now and are tough as hell. I'm gonna use a little bit more I think on the surface of the mounts before I put them back in.

Also the contruction adhesive is like an ugly butterscotch color so I'm gonna use some hi temp black paint on em.

home depot huh? good price to. i'm really interested in those pics of the motor mounts. i havent taken mine off, but was curious how they could be "injected".

this stuff could be used to stiffen up just about anything. i originally got the idea from someone who did this to their strut/shock mounts. 2 tubes did all four mounts which was far less than half the price of new mounts.

Once the 3/16" holes are drilled, the mounts are actually pretty cavernous inside. Just shove the tip of the adhesive tube into the hole. When it starts to ooze out the other holes you know you've filled it!

Damn, you guys that are doing all your mounts must have some cazy vibrations goin on. I did just my transmission mount and i didnt even fill the thing solid. Construction adhesive dries hard as a rock.

eddiec, did your transmission mount dry hard as a rock? Ive got vibrations inside the car like crazy and i only coated mine with construction adhesive. that ugly yellowish kind from the hardware store. I was going to take the mount back out and cut some of the polyurathane out but im lazy and its not unbearable. I could imagine how much vibration youd get with all the mounts done as my transmission mount doesnt move at all.

you will get more vibration from these kind of mounts. If you think thats bad, try the NISMO motor mounts. They vibrate the whole front!

1993240sx- the stuff i used i dont think is as hard as the construction grade material. i used window weld which is designed to be a little pliable. in fact i can take my finger and push on the material and it gives slightly. but not very much. and yes there is some vibes/noise goin on. how much more than before is hard to say as i installed a upgraded noisy clutch as well.

I had the same idea but I thought about using silicone or something with a little "give" to it. Any reason why this would not work?

i dont see why not. when you look at the transmission mount you'll notice its suspended by two 'wings' of rubber. by filling the void under these with anything should do the trick.

silicone might be better if your not interested in noisy vibes.

were only trying to firm up the mounts like aftermarket ones but at a fraction of the price.

maybe, but its MUCH easier to work with off the car. you could use the jack to support the transmission then remove the transmission crossmember and mount for working on.

i only let it set up for about 8-10 hrs before i bolted it back up.
