Okay after reading another post on here, I feel it's imperative to protect our precious 240's.

I mean removable steering wheels and fancy sounding car alarms are cool. But couldn't we get the job done better with just a few bucks, a little wiring, and creativity? A thief has no time to figure out your wiring while trying to steal your car. He needs to be gone in 60 sec. We want him to give up in 60 sec =).

After installing a fuel controller, it occured to me that theft protection is really just a matter of momentarily disconnecting vital wires. I already ruled out disconnecting critical ECU wires such as MAFS sensor since your life would hang in the balance should the connection accidently break while u're going 80mph on the freeway.

I want to use a SPST or "on-off" switch to one of the wires that allows your car to start. If he can't crank, he can't steal your car right?

Okay, soooo, what I need your help with is the starter wiring. Does anybody here know which wire in our S13 240's allows the starter to spark while u turn your key?

Also, what's a good place to conceal a "kill" switch?

I know this whole idea is not 100% protection. But at least, if you combine it with the stuff you already have, the thief probably won't get to drive off with your car.

Wouldn't it be easier to um say....put a switch on the..."fuel pump" wire?

Also, what if they use a tow truck?

I would classify the fuel pump wire as being life critical. If your wiring were to go bad while you're driving, it would be an "uh-oh ohhh ****tt".

Well I mean if they really want your car, they can have it. A tow truck would work on anybody's car =P.

I've done the fuel pump switch on a few RX-7s (FC). Never had a problem since the wires were soldered in place and heat shrunk tubing wrapped.

Switch was cleverly hidden inside the steering wheel column, only the driver would know where to switch it on.

This was not done as a theft prevention device, just that the FC flood their engines a lot.

A tow truck would own anyone's car.

Yes it does, its the easiest and most convenient way to steal. I guarantee if you own an expensive sports car people will try to steal it.

If I had a tow truck, I'd be so busy.

thanks for that info fuzion.

yeah, don't get any stupid ideas people. actually i was debating over myself whether or not to even post this thread. but i figured if somebody really wanted to jack a car, they would have already done their homework.

Do you know where the fuel pump wire runs, and what color it is? I have a great place to put a swith, I just haven't thought about it in a while.

putting a kill switch on your starter might be useless if you have a manual transmission. The fuel pump is pretty smart thou. that is why I have my alarms starter kill curcuit hooked up to the fuel pump instead of the starter. so there is no danger of the fuel pump turning on where the alarm is off.

Only thing with the fuel pump is that if they get it to turn over you get tons of detonation, really bad for your engine so they might not steal it, but they will leave you with a blown engine, almost as bad some might say. maybe on both the starter and the fuel pump?

my truck had a fuel pump switch mounted under the dash. you were supposed to kill the pump with the engine running to get all the fuel out of the lines if you were gonna work on the fuel system. i think the idea would work just as well as a theft deterrent.

unless they use a tow truck. wasn't there a thread a while back about some guy's integra getting stolen with a flatbed, and the guys did it in just a few minutes too.

i think if someone pulls a big A$$ tow-truck into your driveway at 4 AM [and to make it look official] with those flashing lights and that loud a-ss hydraulic lift or rattly chains and big diesel engine.. you'd probably hear it and wake up. then you could go out there and own on the truck driver :) so i have to ssay, id rule that one out as 'a bit too much to worry about'...

on the other hand, if thieves were smart... they'd tow your car away in broad daylight while you're at work or something where you probably wont notice till you're in the parking lot late at night. thats what i would do ;)

Why not just remove your fuel pump fuse? It's very easy to remove/install. I agree that they could dump some fuel into the engine, but do you think someone trying to steal a car would sit there and just turn the engine over even though they knew it wouldn't start just out of spite?

Plus, once the fuse is disconnected from the fuel pump--how much fuel would be pumped into the engine? Just the fuel in the lines, right? And that can't be that much?

Nothing quite like a good loud alarm, a hood lock, kill switches on starters, fuel pump etc. and one of these
