My 91 q45 p/s hoses and steering rack are leaking enough that I need to top it up twice weekly. I have the basic system. Is replacement of those parts a practical diy proposition? I have checked the owner service manual and it does not give too much helpful detail. I also need to replace the outer tie rod ends and struts. Car has done 136k miles.

With a lift, easy to replace. Without an Hunter, impossible to align.

The hoses are all pretty simple... not sure about the rack itself. Outer tie rod ends aren't that difficult. Of course, you would take it somewhere for an alighnment after the rack/tie rod work.

I just had a thought. The Q is not that hard to steer, even at low speeds without power assist. I know, because the speed sensor came loose a couple of times and wiped out the power steering.

I would assume that if I disconnected the electrical connection from the steering gear once I can find where it connects, of course, that everything else, i.e. speedo, cruise control etc., will work fine and I will save about $1500 in parts and labor.

Wishful thinking on my part, or what?

If all you have to offer is sarcasm, stay off this board. People post here for helpwith issues they don't understand.

Mr. 19-post-Pahdring, if you could think, your posts might be more cogent.

Just because you don't get it, don't assume no else does either.

We somehow managed to survive without you here and the previous boards for over 8 years.
