I just ordered a rebuilt rack & pinion from Joe for my 97 J30. I plan to do the job myself. Are there any trouble spots that I should be aware of? Has anyone else done this job before? Thanks

Come on guy's..... I know someone on here has to have some grease under his finger nails. Has anyone installed a steering rack before?

Most of the swaps are Qs I think. Lock the steering wheel straight ahead, disconnect the tie rods, lines and steering column u joint. Use fresh rack boots and rack bushings when you reassemble.

Energy Suspension makes a steering rack bushing set for the Maxima, it might fit your car, I used them on my SE-R, they tightend things up a good bit.:) Good luck

My best tech says 4 hours plus an alignment.

Thanks guys. Let's see... if it take a good tech. 4 hrs. to R/R it will probably take me 12 hrs. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it.

I haven't gotten around to changing out the rack yet. But I noticed when I changed out the boots a couple of months ago, there were two seals just floating on each steering rod. Appears that they were once pressed in the ends of the cylinders originally. Has anyone ever seen what I am discribing? Thought I once read where someone else experienced this.
