Well I was bored so I thought I black out my mirrors with some good ole can of plasti-dip. I thought it might look better with vaguely tinted windows hence the color would be more uniform as a whole without the mirrors (blue) clashing if that makes any sense.

So I kinda like it and might keep it for awhile. It's real easy to peel off when your tired of it like I did with my emblems.

Since I am not a professional painter, the top of my mirrors kinda had a rougher texture but no big deal to me personally. Lack of experience with angles and painting on top I guess. :ohno:

Tip- Just paint the whole outside mirror cover black, any painter tape will rip it off and you have to start over.

my 2 cents- I know on some vehicles, the black covers are usually on the base model while higher end vehicles have the color-match covers. Moreover, some people with black mirror covers have converted theirs to a colored coordinated model. :yesnod

As I said before, the beauty of plasti-dip is that you can peel away when your tired of it. So underneath is my pristine ( ummm ...some nicks lol! )paint job being somewhat protected at this time. I like how it blends inconspicuously with my tinted windows at the moment. :woot:

Check the pixs out! :bigthumb:

That Plasti-Dip is cool stuff, where do you buy it from again?

And how durable is it, if I were to coat my lower rocker panels prior to winter to protect from rock chips and road salt etc, do you think it would stand up or would it get sand blasted off?

Looks pretty cool by the way, I kind of like the flat-black look and like you said it's fun stuff because unlike paint you can easily remove it if you don't like it or get tired of it. Also this would protect the backside mirror paint from rock chips and bugs etc...

Yes you get a somewhat flat black matte look if your into that. You can usually find Plasti-dip at hardware stores. I got mine at Home depot or Lowes should have it.

I also thought about the rocker panels but I am still cautious for me personally since that is more to paint area wise and I dont think I am too good at painting large areas. But I didn't do to bad on the lower sill so I assume it will be the same.

For looks I feel it would look good for decorative creativity, but for hard winters, mud, snow, rocks etc.....I feel it would be sandblasted off. But I have read where people had no problems. I guess if you put a thick enough coats or layers, it may be possible. :gotme :mike

I found at Home Hardware stores in Canada. I guess only they have Plastidip products.

You got a nice idea of giving some protection to it but that black matte color...I don't know if I like it. Reminds me of unpainted mirrors from S models. Maybe you should try this stuff on wheels to black them out :poke:

Yah, I only recommend to blacken the mirror covers if you have somewhat tinted windows to work off each other. Definitely don't do it if your windows are clear, then in that case the colored match version is preferable in my opinion.

I would do the wheels if it was not a pain in the butt to remove them from the vehicle and plasti-dip them. I dont want to go through that. Always wondered how it turn out though.

How does plasti dip apply? I saw it at home depot last week and i thought you spray it out like it was foam but from your post it looks like you have to paint them on some how. If you're bored and want plasti dip something else, I suggest you can try it on your door handles =)

Well they have the dip version and the spray can version. The can version sprays like paint. :)

People have suggest doing car handles in the past but it will not hold up well because of the everyday abuse of opening and closing the door. Think people's nails, keys, etc or grabbing the handle roughly.

I am sure it's possible if you're the only person using your car and you have a gentle touch and no passengers to worry about. :bowrofl:

In my early pics I stuck black moldings to see if I like the handles black, i took it off and went back to the color match. Kept the smooth flow or look I guess.

It looks ok on the tires. I tried that. But took it off cause I wasn't going to do the whole tire and as Casper said, you have to do the entire space, otherwise the tape will start peeling the ends off.

So I just took everything off. (Waste of my 2 hours)

I also realized that I don't like the black rim look.
