Read the articles section here on NICO and find the 240sx.org FAQ. Good starting point.

imo the best thing you can do for free is take out stuff that you dont need, if you do a home depot intake, youre just going to replace it later when you realize how ghetto it is. save up for good parts, but dont over-pay to get bling.

You can advance your timing if you feel like running premium.

You can...uh...do something or other to your stock airbox. I don't recall what the mod is, search for it. I just bought an intake.

You can take stuff out (back seat, other interior, blah blah blah).

You can adjust tire pressure. This makes a pretty big handling difference, actually.

Can we adjust camber with stock equipment? I know I could on my WRX. I haven't really looked at it on the S14 just yet.

I think that a sleepy eye mod is either cheap or free. I have a Kouki S14, so I dunno how the hell you do it.

I did lots of tiny interior stuff for cheap or free, like the following:

-Creatively mounted Air Spencer air freshener

-Change color of interior lighting (mine's blue)

-I didn't like my ghetto-looking Nissan OEM faux-wood dash trim, so I pulled it off with my bare hands, then cleaned the dash, so it all looks nice n clean now.

You can paint wheels, valve cover, or brake calipers, if you're just antsy for something to do. My car is Silver Moss, so I think I'm going to get the valve cover painted to match (not exactly DIY though). Might just do it black myself.

You can paint emblems/markings black, or whatever other color you want.

I've heard about "smoking" S14 tail lights. I have no idea how this is done, but I know it looks super cool.

I found this in my old stuff laying around

Tinted Lenses

Remove the part you want to tint.

Using the 600 grit sandpaper, carefully wet sand to remove the letters stamped into the lens (they usually indicate DOT certification, part number, etc.).

Wet sand the entire part with the 1000 and 1500 grit sandpaper until you get a nice, smooth result.

Clean the part with alcohol, and place it where you intend to paint it. Try not to touch the surfaces to be painted, as you risk leaving an oily film behind.

Apply the spray tint in broad, even strokes. Do not stop half way across the part, or else you will end up with an uneven and blotchy result. You want to coat the entire surface in one light coat, if possible.

Continue coating the part with light coats of the tint until you achieve the desired darkness. It may be wise to tint the part, leave it to dry for a few hours, and then test it on the vehicle to ensure that its not *too* dark.

If you find that the part is too dark, you can use 1000 grit paper to sand off some of the tint spray, however, use extreme caution, because uneven sanding will result in "bright spots" in the lens when illuminated.

When you are satisfied with the results, allow the lens to dry overnight.

After drying overnight, lightly wet sand the part with 1500 grit sandpaper, and apply a thick coat of clear coat. This will give the part the gloss it had before, and make it look more smooth and even (the tint tends to appear blotchy).

Allow the clear coated part to dry for several hours. If you find the clearcoat is not perfect, you can wetsand it with 1500 grit sandpaper, followed by 3M Hand Glaze to restore its shine. Generally, however, this will be unnecessary.BTW EBay has "spray tint", in ebay search

Here is a way found this through google......

Custom Badge Overlays

Purchase some quality vinyl. Often your local sign shop will have odds and ends that they will sell cheap/give away.

Using masking tape, attach a piece of paper over the emblem you wish to create an overlay for and rub the area with a charcoal pencil.

Cut out the outline of the badge with a sharp hobby knife.

Test fit the new decal to ensure it fits perfectly over the badge.

Tape the newly created stencil to the vinyl and cut out as many overlays as you require.

Remove the backing and carefully install your new overlay. Don't rub it down until you have it placed where you want it, as some trimming may be required to make the edges smooth.

When the decal is perfectly placed, rub it down good and do the next one.

The stock intake mod is:

The black box that your air filter sits in, remove the bottom half, and secure the airfilter to the top half. Makes your car sound MEAN. Oh, and its free

You mock me, but try it sometime. It effin' HURTS. I didn't want to use a screwdriver or anything because I didn't want to scratch the plastic underneath, but it's HARD to get that stuff off. I pulled a fingernail half off doing it.
