This thread is a spin off from another thread. We've been discussing how expensive it can be to maintain a Q45. The concensus on how to manage this expense is to perform some DIY maintenance.

I'm due for a 120k service. I called the dealership this morning and they ran through a laundry list of items so long and fast that I couldn't keep up. As I listened to that list I thought some of these things shouldn't wait so long for attention. So, why don't we compile our own DIY service schedule. We could also expand on the how's and why's as needed.

A quick search of Q45tech's threads will yield what you are suggesting.

I wouldnt hesitate for a second to do the fuel pump and fuel filter. Idler pulleys. Belts.

Basics mostly.

The only parts on Q45s rated below perfect are fuel system related.

ADD plugs to your list, and get them from me. :D

You can visit my website for more stuff Ive DIYd. Basically Ive come to the conclusion that I wont remove it if I cant lift it (IE no transmission/engine swaps)

Each person has a different level of skill, and is capable of different levels of DIY.

I resealed my steering rack a couple months ago, something I never did at a dealer, and I can see why. It took a lot of time when I could have bought a "reman" from autozone for a couple hundred bucks. It was cool just to see that I could do it, and that it hasn't leaked in a couple months now.

I've built engines and transmissions before, but I would probably just buy a used Q engine for mine if needed, unless I was building a serious race motor.
