Or modify the motors. There is a sensor in there to tell when the lamp is up. For all of you who have the Zeroyon manuals, refer to EL-23. It's something called "Detecting Switch" tucked int he headlamp motors. I think that is the key.

The more I look at it though, I think that switch just tells the motor to run forwards or backwards, and the headlamp timer just tells how long the motors should run each way. I really need to go get some sample headlamps and motors to play with to figure this out. Plus an actual FSM. The Zeroyon one is great, but it's abit fuzzy to accurately read the wiring diagrams.

I remember reading a few members who have tried in the past, and just gave up.

There was actually 1 member who made a whole separate controller module and was so close to finishing, but abandoned the project - he had headlights up, down, sleepy, even winking!).

if u want em sleepy... ytou should do em sleepy all the time... just bracket em in... and since i chopped the motors off, and the bottom of the stock headlight cages - i can verify its easy. I run short rt piping so my piping is there

damn, u guys seem to be going on major missions. i wanted to have "sleepy eyes", but i also wanted to have a set of rectangular yellow fog lights. 2 reasons, i like way yellow fogs look, and i know that pointing the light down makes all the light go into the bumper instead of out on the road. unless u make some bracket or something. so, all i did was replace the stock light with sylvania's. the ones that are supposed to be the closest thing to h.i.d.s. disconnected the motors but left them attached so they don't get dirty, then rolled them up to my dsiered position. onto the fogs. now, to drill the holes where i did ur gonaa need a pretty powerful drill. the third and last one i used was an 18 volt, 2.4 amp drill. pop ur hood. if u look down behind the bumper u should see an edge that sticks out of the bumper towards the the car an inch or two. grab ur fog light, sit in front of the car and now that u know where this flat piece of matal is place ur fog light under it and see where u want it. mark it from the top and drill. make sure u use a big enough metal bit. this will take a couple of minutes, cuz its pretty thick. wire up ur fog lights to each other and pass one through behind the splitter and mount that ****. mount the other. now take out one of ur front turn signals. i used the passenger side. connect the positive to the BLUE and GREEN wire. and the black to the black. wrap them tight. turn the lights on to the first position(parking lights). if ur fogs turn on, ur the man. turn them off, put turn sugnal back in. then pull the wires in behind the bumper so they don't hand all over the place. tie them up with zip tie and stick into one of the holes in the back of the bumper. if they don't(turn on) u suck. and i don't know what to tell u. i'l post some pics later when its not 1,000 degrees outside.

Here is the link to a write up i made on controlling the lights. Maybe not as good as buying a controller, but cheaper and works well. Plus, its not cutting any factory wires and the lights stay in their position whether they are on or off

Need2Drift what kind of inspection checks do you have to go thru for your car? I know for damn sure a foglight replacing a OE headlight would be a automatic failure in my state and it would be a PITA for anyone else who has to put back their OE headlights in for inspection just to pass (depending on their state's restrictions)

hahahaha I live in MISSISSIPPI man and I dont even have an inspection sticker on the 240 nor have I hade one on it since I have owned it... Even if I did go to get a inspection sticker I could just go to some redneck gas station that does it and nothin would be said..

NICE lights guys i have a setup like that, but my headlights stay up all the time(doesnt bother me i love the lights) i unplugged the headlight motor wires and pulled them up into the body under the hood were i ziptied them aside then i just use the headlight turn knob to adjust the opening "sleepy eyesness" the lights are driving bulbs from CATZ japan in catz housings afixed to the old headlight buckets. i bought 2 switches, 1 for low beams(inner/white) and 1 for the high beams(outer yellow/gold) i also got extra bulbs for them, purple lows and yellow highs all DRIVING bulbs...not fog (better beam pattern)........................

mine are also up... always... i mentioned that in the first paragrah of this thread...

i now have 2 square and 2 yellow foglights next to em (no mroe 4 eyes-they're on my friends car now) The lights are awesome and they look great with a front mount with em

my fmic is hidden like crazy now with the short piping but i love it - my lights are like his above but not as wide, with a little round yellow one next to em - my bulbs are 2 x yellow nokya and 2x silverstars

they're BRIGHT and point perfectly

hey wiht the wiring of the lights the fog lights have 2 wires, the white and black one. i just wire one to the highs and then one to the lows and then both black wires to the green one? or do i have to use the wiring harness it came with? thanks

i wired both of the ground to the green oneand it worked perfectly fine

Great write-up man. I know this is an old thread but did you ever get more pictures? I have a 91' 240 I know mine would look slightly different without the pignose so I'm trying to get a better idea of what it would look like.

unplug the headlight fuse, then manually turn the motors for the headlights by hand. Close hood. Look at it.

For having them so that they can open and close like factory and only open half way.......

All you have to do is turn the arm on the motors 90* and shorten the rods up so that the lights are flush when they are closed. It's pretty easy. And the write up on turning the arms on the motor 90* is in the faq. Shortening the rods is a simple turn of a wrench untill they are at the desired lenth. The motors don't link to timers, they just go by 180* before each stop. I learned alot about these damn things when I had to redo the ones in my Z to make my lights work. Took me weeks to figure them out like I do now.

I've done a similar conversion on my 240sx but I use Corolla aftermarket headlights with halo rings

Its not as detailed with dimentions like yours (not as cheap either) but it works, both the highbeams and low beams.

But heck for about $85 it doesn't look bad, I haven't had any problems with it. And when they close it has the sleepy eyes.

What I don't understand is......How did you guys mount the bulbs inside the light housing??

I have been confused about this for a while now. I have a Idea of using some square super bright halogen sealed beams that even connect to the stock connectors. I think it's 4656CB or something. But because they are an inch shorter and three inches narrower they don't fit in the stock housing mounts.

What did you do fabricate a new bracket?? That would be insane and overthe top by a mile. Would that super strong double side car tape work to hold it in place? Doesn't seem strong enough for me to hold up to 120mph winds.
