ok im gonna try to make this write up, here goes, everyone of you that bought a silvia trunk lock know it's a ***** to get it re-keyed and jerks wanna charge an arm and a leg, i didn't want to pay crap so i did it myself, and i decided to make this write up for all the 240sx/slivia S13 homies, hope you guys like it....

it only takes about 20 minutes max!

first you need your existing trunk lock off your car, then your silvia trunk lock,

tools1. a small flathead screwdriver2. your original lock cylinder from you trunk

i already did this on my car, first get youe original trunk lock and look at it should look like this ......

first thing you want to do is take off the silver cover off of the front of the lock cylinder, i used small screw driver to lift the edge on the back thats holding it on the lock cylinder like this.....

sorry for the blurry pic but you get the idea, but it should look like this.....

next, remember what way is up, the little bar should be like the first picture i used here, take your small screwdriver and pull the round retainer off so you can take the small spring off like so....

should look like this now...

now that you've taken that off you can remove the spring thats on there like this....

from here you can see the 8 key pins now really remember whic way is up it should be like this

next you can pull out the actual cylinder from the silvia casing, here you can do two things, use your existing cylinder and replace it with the silvia trunk lock cylinder (skip to silvia trunk lock cylinder removal below) or re-pin the silvia trunk lock like i had too, 1 pin at a time, you are also gonna have to pull the lock cylinder out of the silvia trunk lock too (either way) the same way we removed the cylinder from the old casing but on the silvia there is a plastic cover/retainer you have to remove on front, looks like this....

to remove that just carefully push the four little tabs on back to pop it out, .....

i didn't want to take the cylinder since i've already done mine but you get the idea

from here you can replace the key pins, what you do is pull one pin from the silvia cylinder and replace it with the one on yours, it has to be in the exact spot you removed the other pin from the silvia cylinder, remember what side was up like i said in th begining, it's the same on both the silvia lock and the USDM one.

there is a spring in each of the key pins carefull not to lose them just keep them in there.

make sure you push the pins in all the way so they can lock in place

if you decided to use your cylinder instead of replacing the pins forget most of the last pictures, well by this time it should be done, now all you have to do is put everything back the same way you took it apart, install the lock on your car and BAM!!!!!! you've got a jdm silvia trunk lock that uses your orginal key instead of paying an arm and a leg to do, no more having to use two keys or replacing all your locks or re keying the whole F-ing car.hey if you live in the east bay i can do it for you for $10, just let me know, remember, you have to have your original lock cylinder along with the silvia cylinder for this swap.

feel free to ask any questions, im always online so i can answer within a few minutes sometime, thanks for reading and hope you guys liked it, had to share this with all the S13 homies out there!!

well here is the final product.....

Nice write up! Haha my coupe is the parts car, so I won't be needing this, but it's good to see someone figuring something out on their own rather than just paying someone to do it. Nice car too, looks clean (the back at least)

JESUS CHRIST! sooooo many consecutive posts in one thread... Next time you want to post responses to more than one person, use one post to do it. You can use the edit button to add information to an older post.

I'm going to clean this up then article-ize this for you, Armstec. What do you want your custom title to be?

we have a special section for articles our users submit, but to be put in that section they must be formatted and polished. hence the term article-ize.

for submitting the article to be used as such, you receive a "custom title" under your user name that distinguishes you as a contributor opposed to a regular member.

it can say whatever you want limited only to space and appropriate language.

check out 240sxtech.com under the exterior mods periodically, I would assume it will be moved there very soon since its formatted and ready to go. Enjoy your title, and thanks again!

I just did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15 Minutes! I changed the entire pin cylinder. You don't even need to remove the Spring. The entire pin cylinder slides out.

Great Write up.
