I was just thinking about making a DIY individual throttle body set up for the VQ with 1995-1999 Manima manifold.

I figured that I could use the same set up as butterfly valves inside KA24DE thottle body and use it at the entrance of each runner. All necessary vaccume plugs would be split to each runner. For IACV each runner would be connected to a small box with the IAVC attached.

What do you think?

when some one made itbs using the butterflies in the intake, it did not turn out so well as people thought it would. It was not nearly big enough to support the displacement. it would not be that hard to make an itb setup if you had the skill. But YOU are better off buying a pre-made setup.

Toyota already made it though.

The new IS F gets an extensively modified version of the 5.0-liter V8 also found under the hood of the LS 600h sedan. With the help of a dual air intake system, direct sequential fuel injection, high-flow cylinder heads, titanium intake valves and fully variable valve timing (VVT-iE), the engine can churn out 416 horsepower at 6600 rpm and 371 lb-ft of torque at 5200 rpm. Secondary-intake plenum chamber flaps open at 3600 rpm, producing a loud, deep, baritone growl during full acceleration. You quickly find yourself reveling and indulging with your right foot.[/quote]

How does dual TB help with air velocity inside the intake runners?300ZX has it, VQxxHR has it and VR38DE-TT has it.

I know that it gives better flow in forced injection but I don't see much of power increase between NA VQ35DE (rev up) and VQ35HR

1 tb for 6 cyl or 1 tb per bank of cyl, which you do think will get more air?

the NA VQ35DE rev up puts out like... 250ish to the wheels, while a VQ35HR puts out 285ish to the wheels.

yeah... I don't see that much of a difference either.. nope... no difference at all..stop being all custom and tricked out. just use a 350z intake manifold and be happy. You do not have super computers the size of a small apartment complex figuring out what would be the best for all situations.

****, just try to get your hands on a VQ35HR upper/mid/lower intake manifold.

Isn't it the VQ37HR that puts 280+HP to the wheels?

Yes. The VQ37VHR makes ~330 hp.The new twin intake VQ35HR only makes about 15 more peak hp than the later VQ35DE. The VQ35HR's improvements were mostly in the areas of responsiveness and high-end power, not significant peak power increase. The twin intakes are partly responsible for the HR's better high-end performance, though.

I doubt it's that simple, unfortunately. Both VQ35DE and -HR use electronic "drive-by-wire" throttles. The TPS is integrated into the throttlebody. I think you'd have a hard time getting the VQ35DE's ECM to cooperate with the VQ35HR TBs.

Cable throttle conversion would be useful. Just plug the sensors on the thing ^_^.

That's correct. He is prototyping a set up for the VQ35DE with a performance shop that's paying for R&D costs. I don't know which one but they will have the kits for sale there. Here are more pictures.http://i307.photobucket.com/al...79783h ... al...79872

Most MAF have a 7" water column restriction at redline. The common plenum TB has about the same, and the air filter and duct work might cause 2-3" more say 17" in total.

Measure the air flow resitiction of your situation with an accurate digital manometer: 17/27.7 = 0.613 psi OR 4% restriction.

Pretty impossible with ITB get much more than 50% improvement if any air filter is used.

On a 750HP race engine 2% improvement is 15 HP.On a street 250 HP it might only be worth 4-5 HP.

ITBs are nice and all but for the cash you're better up saving for FI. unless you are trying to make the best possible na motor then yes you would want to use them, otherwise the money can be better spent elsewhere.

How much power are they expecting out of that? Apparently so much they need ANOTHER set of injectors mounted before the tb's...

there is 100% no need to add another set of injectors. not to mention it would make tuning it a hassle. good pick up tho! i missed it on my 1st look. but then again i wasn't looking hard as i don't see it ever being cost efficient, useful, needed etc...

Extrudabody has a lot of information on there website for itbs next you have to look into timing with a stand alone. gl, keep us informed should make some good torque numbers, and it should sound awesome too

Jenvey ITB's are already available. you can call Mack at Emerald Performance as he has already fitted these to several vehicles with the VQ block form Maximas to G35's ,350z's to 240zx's.The ones above are on a G35 that was at SEMA last year, and they where installed by Injected Performance.

These are on a S14 240sx with a VQ swap being done at Macks shop.

Emerald performance954-578-0465 tell him that Neil told you about these here on the NICO forums
